Re: Looking for feedback on a piece
Nice Work, dude! Got a question though: Why does everyone roll edges outward (a la 14th Century principally) BEFORE the surface you are rolling them onto is sanded smooth. It would seem that makes it tough to get right up to the edge--I was continually ripping up sanding belts trying to do just tha...

Overall, very good! Heres two, possibly three things... The poleyn is a little more shallow on yours than the original. The lower right corner of the demi greave show be more angular and less round (unless the original is like this... In that case nevermind) The wing on the poleyn looks a bit flat. ...

Everything besides a dedicated mortiser. My mortising consists of a drill press and a sharp chisel to remove waste.

Ouch man! Hopefully that will be the worst part and everything heals up nicely without problems! That's why I keep my floors clean, same with bench tops. Might be cluttered, but clean. Also sharp tools always go back to their storage space. Reusable cut offs always get the odd unusable bits lopped o...

I would, but maybe only a year. My main interest would be the production of iron all the way to final armour.

Well, the girlfriend finally agreed to camp/house furniture once I showed her Mac's bed in a box. So as per her request... Dining table, chairs, chests, Bed-In-A-Box, etc. (Sleep? Whats that?) And it must be usefull for day to day "mundane" living. Thankfully we agree on late 15th century German. Sh...

I don't go to the big box stores, I'm pretty lucky to have a good hardwood distributor close by.
I'm actually very picky about certain things within the "authenticity lines." This is one of those things.
Some other things I will forego authentic for convenience, as long as no one will notice

Re: Wood species for clear finished furniture
Im stuck between going for pure durability (this is for camp furniture) with the cost of being a pain to carve, or give up some durability to make carving a little easier on myself. The extent of my carving has been only in bass wood.

Wood species for clear finished furniture
So I have been using the search function quite a bit on this, so this is more for clarification purposes...
In Germany, for clear finished furniture, oak was the most commonly used, walnut was used in some cases.
Any other hardwoods that I am missing? I'm not interested in painting or using pine.

I have heard of peopld taking the "controler" from an xbox Kinect, hooking it up to a laptop, and using it for 3D scanning. I don't know much about it, but some time spent on Google could de-mystify the process sufficiently.

Re: Mac's new chest. More than meets the eye.
Mac- I personally would be interested in just a set of plans, paneled or plank construction. Hardware is something I can make for myself, as long as measurement diagrams of the hardware were included in the plans. I would have to think about the lock. What time periods of locks would you consider of...

Tom, that's a detail I haven't noticed before, now as I look through photos I see it IS common on German gothic back plates. Re: Breastplate and backplate overlap
Yes I was wondering what would have prevented the whole cuirasse from springing open when hit right. I will have to contemplate whether I want to rivet on a half belt or just strap a full length belt around the waist when worn for tournaments, etc. Another thing I noticed is on the backplate of A58,...

Re: Breastplate and backplate overlap
I am definitely seeing a couple "mystery holes" on the A58 back plate, second from bottom in Tom's post. One just above the waist, the other two just below the shoulder straps. I suspect the latter two were for the shoulder straps originally.

wts/t 12 oz sole bend leather
Had received a 12 oz sole bend by mistake from Tandy a few years ago. Used a small piece of it to make a journal for someone. The ruler in the pic is 36 inches. Largest whole rectangular piece that can be cut from this is 44"x30" and the branded area is 16"x14". Tandy had them listed at $180 last ti...
