Re: On maille shirt tailoring
This advice was given to me about making pin rivets. Find the right gauge wire, then take a propane torch or similer and heat up the end just until it starts to melt. When the molten "drip" cools off it will act as the head for the rivet. Works, but i wouldnt do it for mass quantities.

Now a breas question... Was it possible that some of the more "fashion dedicated" would have owned dyed breas? Say in the same color as their hosen?

Re: On SCA silhouettes
Zetheros- stamina and endurance training will burn calories, yet not build a lot of muscle mass. When there is a fat reserve built up, it needs to be burned off somehow. For many of us, eating the right foods/portions will leave us intaking less calories per day than what we burn on a normal basis (...

Hmm, thats interesting. Im not entirely familiar with hosen from this time period. So would they still be a split hosen, or would joined hosen be appropriate?

Re: braies question
The mention of the pourpoint reminded me of something. The Charles de Blois pourpoint has several points inside. There are three in the back, one on each side, and two in the front. All around hip level. The two on the sides are at a slightly higher level. Would I be correct to assume the three in t...

Bishops Mantle
So I'm a little confused right now, a photo I had saved of a bishops mantle has disappeared into the black hole called my computer. Hopefully you guys will know which one I'm looking for. The collar is of a fairly dense weave, if I remember correctly it was 6 in 1. The rest was the standard 4 in 1 w...

Re: anyone have an opinion on harbor freights break?
Yes, it would probably bend uber soft metal in twelve gauge. With the addition I made, I was bending 14g ms 36" wide with the help of the cheater bars on handles. So depending on how much use its going to see, it may be worth the extra effort for you.

Re: anyone have an opinion on harbor freights break?
I have it. Its good up until 18g mild steel. 16g is a struggle, but I took the grips off and used piping to add leverage. Anything more than that and the clamping bar just wants to flex. I fixed it by welding another quarter inch plate onto the clamping bar. Was it worth it to me? Probably not, but ...

Re: A Comprehensive Discussion on Mail
The thing with the rings made in India is that they are flattened pretty heavily. If historical accuracy isn't a main concern I would agree, but I think its worth the effort to make them yourself either way. If riveted maille is the only goal, go with the Indian stuff. Trying to get an historical lo...

loose rings and rivets for riveted maille
I have two 2.5 kg bags from Ice Falcon of 9mm flat ring, round rivet blackened mild steel maille. Approximately 75 rings and rivets have been used. I have made the decision a few months ago that if I'm going through the trouble to make riveted maille, I'm going to make the rings myself so they look ...

I wouldn't worry about gaps until the piece is finished being formed. You'll be surprised at what doesn't line up before became less of an issue.

Mac- the hems being integral to the brass decorations seems like it would be a pain to accomplish. I would assume that you would hem an edge to the right shape, hem the edge, then trim to be the right border width? My thought process would be the extra metal would allow easier handling while formin...

Re: CdeB patterning/tailoring issues
Ok, just a clarification...
Charlotte, I am assuming you mean there are two seams that run all the way out to the elbow hinge, one on the back of the arm and one on the underside (part of the arm against the body).
Or just one?

It looks like you have interchangable clamping surfaces for the vice. Do you bolt these on? Or are they just a slide on fit?

I personally have three dishes in my stump. All round, and different depths. And even then, I can get and range of curve from relatively flat to a curve equal to a 4" sphere. Its all in how light or hard you are hammering into your dishing forms. My main way to get low spots evened out is working fr...

Mind posting a picture of your stump? Lay down nice and even hammer blows, the need for planishing is kept to a minimum. How your hammer for dishing has been ground is a factor too.
