Re: Churborg 13 breastplate details?
I cut my material bigger than needed, shaped, then trimmed. Yeah, it wastes material, but I think its worth it in the long run. Then when all my plates are finished, I will probably pull patterns from the pieces and keep them on file. Im not completely happy with my center plate yet, and have the 1s...

Re: Churborg 13 breastplate details?
Is that liner a fairly light leather? Graff Trapp describes the lining as "buff leather", but in the pictures, the torn edges look much thinner than what you might expect from that description. In light of how the lining is not structural, and Trapp's description, I would be inclined to use a suppl...

I think I understand what you mean Charlotte. I'll add that seam in and start messing around with it.

Re: CdeB patterning/tailoring issues
I will try that. The sleeve is still a little loose around my arm, which I will be fixing. I think the gores do extend too far out as well, along as being too wide.
Thank you for the input Jan!

Well this is exciting! I have a churburg 13 style bp I haven't got around to completing yet. I just have to form plates 1 and 9. I'm wanting to try assembling it in the way that has been discussed today. Is that liner a fairly light leather?

Re: CdeB patterning/tailoring issues
So I might be possibly having a problem with the upper sleeve. It seems to be that there is an odd amount of material under the armpit, even when my arm is stretched past my head. What seems to be a horizontal seam under my armpit is really the fabric folding back on itself. http://farm9.staticflick...

I never knew this about the #13 It is a closely guarded Italian state secret. No one is permuted to publish this information except in the Italian language. I have tried to find the thread where Zanetto first mentions these rivets on the Archive, but the thread has apparently been removed.....proba...

At that point, what is the difference between 1050 and 4130? Is it just a carbon content/alloy difference?

Ick, stainless
As you can see, I am not a fan of stainless (when it applies to armour).
Wade, that is great to hear. I started doing some raising recently and working mild hot like that is exactly how you described, moooosh! I think I'll order some and play around with it.

Re: Questions about Gambeson design
As many times as I have looked through TOMAR, I never really paid attention to the Insenheim Alterpiece. Then again, I wasn't thinking of quilt lines before either. But I find the quilt lines shown in this piece to be quit interesting. I might take a look at different small things like fleur de lys,...

Konstantine- you mentioned quilt lines being used in artistic fashion... Any photo examples? Im fairly close to being done with the initial fitting of my CdeB made of the scrap fabric. I was going to quilt the final product like the original CdeB, but its a tad... Boring. After all this work (and mo...

What is 1050 like to work with?
Well, like what the title says, whats 1050 like? I see lots of threads about heat treating and what not, but I havent really seen anything on what its like to form. Is it harder to work with (compared to mild) or the same? Harder on tools? I would really like to hear your guys' experience with it. I...

Mac, to go from wearing the bascinet in the "sca style" to the way it should be worn, is it just a simple adjustment of the padding? I am leaving out the visor of the equation at the moment, as I have yet to make mine.

Articulation Question
So the first thing I did after I cut out the lames for these arms was to dish them. Then I continued on like I always do, then noticed when I got the rerebrace attached, the joint will only flex slightly more than ninety degrees. Upon inspection, it appears that the lames have flattened quite a bit ...

A bit of an update... I have the two front pieces patterned out and cut. Fits great! I can get my hand behind my head, maybe a little farther, without movement in the body of the garment. All thats left is to draw out the lines for the arms eye on the two front pieces, then its time to work on the a...

want to buy/find railroad rail
I'm looking for some railroad rail, preferably located between Seattle and Tacoma (Washington). I would only need a section of rail 12" long, plus or minus a few inches if need be.
