Re: Best place to get mail armor?

cap-a-pie in the uk does maille like that. http://www.capapie.co.uk/ Seconded; if you have to have the round ring riveted - flat washer setup, Cap-a-Pie are the only ones I can recall seeing as carrying that style, exclusively if I recall correctly. Domestically speaking, I'd say go with IceFalcon;...

Re: Schmitthenner 14thC Transitional Cuirass for sale

You're right MJ, it does. I'm 6' and it sits above the belt line; I can bend forward in it, but not necessarily touch my toes- but bending at the waist to 90 degrees is not an issue. If you get a chance, navigate over to Schmitthenner's site and look for this particular one- the original owner's pic...

Re: Hard rubber armour?

I have heard speculation about the possiblity of steel belted radial tires being used for armor. For me, the smell would be a big turn off but maybe not so for you. Good thing about tires is you can find used ones on the cheap- I wouldn't use completely bald ones as the steel threads can be sticking...

REMOVED - Schmitthenner 14thC Transitional Cuirass for sale

Hi folks; I picked this up a little while ago right here on the Archive but have found that I'm a good deal smaller than the previous owner and the shape of the steel plate made it so that the weight of the rig sat right above my solar plexus. Padded garments helped somewhat but not enough to make i...

Re: WTB Used Rivetted Stainless Hauberk. Full Sleeves 44" c

Too bad about the stainless/titanium requirement...I have a galvanized steel flat-ring riveted hauberk and coif that would cost you but a fraction of what a stainless or titanium one would run you; would fit as we're not that much difference in overall measurements; I'm only an inch taller and 17lbs...

Probably best if you're in the DFW area as Russ is talking about coming to get the items physically. A lot of what he's asking for wouldn't make much sense to ship unless it was small enough to fit, like the clothing or towels.

Re: Was maille cleaned using sand and vinegar?

I've heard of using sand, but not necessarily vinegar. I would've thought that sand on its own would be abrasive enough if the hauberk was agitated, or rolled in a barrel as it were. I would guess you'd have to do it for some time though, not in 5 or 10 minutes. As my hauberk's also galvanized, I've...

Hickory's heavier than rattan, less give. Take a shot w/a rattan stick and you'll appreciate it not being something heavier or harder.
