Re: Looking for a replica 14th C sword

Buster's pretty much on the money...one thing about Windlass is that alot of their blades aren't necessarily historically accurate, but they do look close. One thing they seem unable to get away from is the diamond shaped profile at the terminal of the fuller...purely a visual hiccup. Also, if you s...

For that price range you've got options...best bang for the buck might be one of the collaborations between Valiant Armoury and Angus Trim: http://www.valiant-armoury.com/ For that price, you can get a sword with scabbard and belt rig, something a lot of repro shops charge extra for (or don't offer ...

When did the plate defenses start showing up, for you know, lower leg and arm? Shoulder? I'd like to do an impression where it is the beginning of the transitional era.

Oh, I would if it were for combat but this is just for LARP costuming really, my sister falls within that category and the steel shirt I'd gotten here was way too small.

Sounds like a bad shot, but not intentional...shouldn't be bad blood but that doesn't mean there won't be. Hope you find a peaceful resolution to this.

Mine was wool outershell, linen inner, linen backing. Ended up letting it go because it was too big for me.

I used to use House Morningstar, but they use that trigger cloth (or did back when I was using them); what sort of material were you looking to have it made in? I know of at least one seamstress who can make it out of whatever fabric you want- she's not on here. I'd defer to the ones on here first.

AL of Merc's Tailor used to make these...but he made them pretty sturdy and nice looking besides so that's probably not what you're after. Still...he might be persuaded, I'd hit him up see if he'd be up for it.

You could try the Inner Bailey...their customer service was top notch when I had them do up a rig for my wedding- they even managed to get me into the rush queue and I got my item a couple days before the event. Susan and Harold are good people, I'll use them again if I'm in the market for leather g...

Re: The KickASS Sword Trainer

If people that did SCA fighting are so concerned about weight and balance of the blade, why not just do WMA instead of SCA? Don't shoot me, I'm just asking. Those that are concerned probably do have some sort of affiliation with WMA; but I'd think that sort of training would translate well to SCA f...

Re: The KickASS Sword Trainer

SirAngus, the pommel is usually important because it balances the sword- fighters in the SCA are always clamoring for more and better- anything that will mimic the proportions and handling characteristics of a real sword is going to generate a lot of interest. One thing I have noticed about some of ...

Antonio, I think you could do it, but it'd be a specialty item, not something I'd see anyone carrying- altho, if you cut a sartorial figure while wearing it, you may have created a new fashion item! Seriously, mock up an example or two and bring it to your next practice or event and let the marshal ...

Do you mean, like a padded jack of multi layers? It probably wouldn't be period, but it could be done I'd think. You'd probably have to do it yourself and of course, get your Marshal to clear it for the field. But a more pressing question is, what gaps are you speaking of? Do you have pics? Let us s...
