If your priority is Norman, can't help you much: if your priority is scale, I have one I"m not using that I'd be willing to part with in theory if it fit you. Generally I prefer to trade, but let me know in general. It's documented here on the Archive, here's a pic. It's sized average, or "SCA size...

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for protecting the family jewels however- are you wearing armor anywhere else? The term for your piece is "brayette", by the way.

The helmet looks Eastern...like something I'd expect to see on a Steppes warrior, for instance. Ah well...it would've been nice; looks like I'm back to the fantasy scale shirt. Back on the backburner it goes!

Re: WTB Norman scale shirt or kit

Hmm. I've got to dig out that Bayeux 1066 book I have; is that picture part of the tapestry? It looks as if he's wearing a maille hauberk with a close fitting vest of scales over it- it is an addition, rather than an integral part of the hauberk itself. For myself, I was going to use a leather backi...

Re: WTB Norman scale shirt or kit

First, I must ask- where do you see or have you seen documentation to support Normans having a scale shirt/vest? I've got a goodly number of scales that I've been collecting as the armorer makes additional runs but had resigned it to being a fantasy construct. If there's historical doc to support No...

Yes.. and that is taken into account when figuring out the gauge of armor. At least by the US armorers. So when you are buying a 14g helmet for SCA, the sheet it was made from started at 14g, not the end product. Really? I thought they were using calipers to take measurements after creation, not be...

If he's big enough, no matter what he wears he's going to look fat. If he's comfortable enough in his own skin why worry about how he looks in armor? He's going to be fat no matter what he puts on- just have him try on different armors til he sees one that looks good on him in his eyes. I'm sure the...

It's a trade off. Rattan: we get to hit with serious force. There is an aspect of 'realism' from that physicality. Even though, by and large, we know the we would not (quite) be disabling each other were we to use steel. But we're close on that level of force. Rapier is just a bit more than a touch...

So...guys who fight w/rebated swords will get to be considered 'chivalry'? I htink that is as it should be...rattan fighting's fine but I see it as more knightly if you indulge in swordplay with steel over wood. Just my $0.02.
