I'll take it! lol j/k
Good looking helm- as far as fashion goes, spangens might not have been vogue by then but maybe it was used as a more cost-effective alternative to a one-piece raised helm of later manufacture?

Hi Jesse...sounds fantastic. I'll have to go and measure that out- and of course, beg the wife for additional funds. She no-no'd the helm, but maybe she'll let me have this?

Perhaps there was none intended, at least not for this thread- maybe another? In any event, I've seen pictorial representations of swords, but they were hand drawn and while beautiful, I didn't know enough at the time whether or not they were historically accurate, or at least plausible. I'm referri...

I'm pretty sure this thing is 14g throughout. It's pretty dang heavy. Willy Trambone, who used to post on the archive, made it. Here are a couple extra pics: http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f212/JWC76/2013-01-18_16-25-39_235_zpsdcd71bd9.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f212/JWC76/2013-01-18_...

I'm willing to part with this one for 200 plus shipping. Handmade in Europe, hand sewn leather liner. Re: Question on Russian Period Maille
I'm no medieval expert, but the points on swords and other stabbing weapons tended to be pretty robust in the 16th C- but given that it was a layered over another maille protection, I don't know that it matters at this point. That it might've been made to withstand mounted saber blows is definitely ...

You have to what you can live with. We all have bad transactions sometimes but you have to come to a resolution that doesn't leave you with a bunch of regrets. Re: Looking for advice re: dissatisfied customer.
From the pictures it does look wonky, and not just the hinge being mounted crooked. Pictures don't always show what things look like in person. If you feel like the helmet isn't up to your usual standard, then you need to replace it even though they painted it. However since they painted it you can...

Re: Leather Belt
Well, I am currently working with a tannery to figure out this thong belt thing. Ewart Oakeshott said that the thong belts were "buckskin," but buckskin stretches too much to be of any use for a sword belt. If you look at the illuminated manuscripts, the thong belt leather was so supple that the kn...

Re: Question on Russian Period Maille
Thanks for the responses, fellas. I saw that shirt muttman, which prompted the question. I asked about whether or not it is substandard to other representations of Euro maille because the links were so large that it wouldn't be a problem to get the point of a spear or sword to penetrate the surface....

Question on Russian Period Maille
According to the State Historical Museum, Russia, this maille hauberk/baidana belonged to Ivan Grigoryevich Vyrodkov, a 16th C Russian military engineer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Vyrodkov#mediaviewer/File:Baidana_of_Vyrodkov.jpg The rings seem to be rather large and there seems to be consid...

You could go high-end custom and spend a few thousand, or go with historically accurate replicas at or near a grand...or historically plausible (maybe) for under $500. They used deerskin; it is more flexible and suited to that sort of interweaving. Cowhide's rather too stiff for that work. Sword belts integrated with scabbards like that (latterly buckled and earlier tied) were in use up through the first third of the fourteenth century. See Oakeshott's The Archae...

They'll all fit into one of the smaller flat-rate boxes; I've bought two batches so far from Allan, all uniform, nicely shaped and sturdy. If it weren't for the fact that I'm strapped for cash right now, you wouldn't have heard of them in the first place.

I'd be up for #2, possibly #3 - I don't have the time or desire for #1 unless it was a simple matter of knitting ends together with everything already pre-shaped and tailored to me, reasonably of course.
