MJ, aren't you like 6'3"? Note that those would fit a man 5'7" - 5'10" (otherwise I'd be in the running too). ;)

Re: Darksword Armory: Dark Knight Sword Review (picture heav

That's what's so shocking about it, that the amount of time saved by hacking it out like that is totally minuscule, while it improves the quality vastly. I cant understand why any sword-maker of anything more than sub-$100 wallhanger crap would allow such a tang to pass quality control. It happens ...

Tor, I don't know for sure that anyone's ever tested an original to that degree, but just in terms of using a sword, one that won't flex will break eventually- and sooner, rather than later. Even in cuts, a sword will flex so that it doesn't shatter. Not all swords will have the same degree of flex-...

DSA has slowly but surely been trying to transition from the beater-crowd to more historically plausible offerings. I'm happy to see it, and I can also see they have their work cut out for them. I am not overly surprised to see these sorts of small issues with their offerings as I've ordered from th...

Does it look exactly like that one, sans the mail? I take it that it needs to be padded as well? I wouldn't want or need the slats (this'll be for a more LH inspired kit than SCA).

i think you might have a better chance selling it without the crest It is removable so no need to wear it while fighting. It should be on when you are sitting by the fire drinking mead and telling heroic stories after a long day of fighting. If he doesn't want it, I'll take the crest- can always fi...

Beau, what horror stories have you seen on here about allbeststuff? I'm interested to see how they came out.

I like Trim 86, I am not sure what I do with it I mean, is it supposed to run along the hemline, neckline and arm openings of a surcoat? Or only on a tunic? Anywhere else?

Wow. BOO-YAH. I disagree with one thing in Tinker's response- he is, in fact, a brand name. :)

"Tinker!" "Sword!" "Tinker!" "Sword!"

Anybody have ideas for an SCA-legal female viking warrior? Obviously the valkyries, I believe, are understood to have ridden into battle with bare breasts and that's right out, hehe. But are there any thoughts or should I just go with a male style tunic? How terribly anachronistic is this costume f...

I'd go with Allan of Mercenary's Tailor for the splint bracers and greaves; not only will they look spot on, or nearly so, his are the best prices I've ever seen for them. He's here on AA, send him a PM- I'm sure he'll make good if he's up for it. Very well made; I miss mine.

I had a really decent set but Gunther of Orkney made them while he was moonlighting w/Brand over at West Coast Armory; if Gunther were still there, I would recommend it but he isn't, its just Brand and I have no history w/the man, but others do.

If you can fit one of theirs off the rack, it is a good deal to get started but I wouldn't look for it to be a permanent solution for the reasons noted. Ideally you'd want one filled with breathable material that is at least semi-fitted to your torso; the ones from Icefalcon are pretty thick but the...

Glad you walked away with only a broken nose. But just to clear something up, $350 is pretty cheap for a helmet. I don't know what your armour requirements are, but check out some of the SCA armourers like Icefacon, Windrose Armoury, Aesir Metalwyrks, Knotwolf, etc to get an idea what a good helmet...
