Re: The Knights Templar
First Crusade, no surcoats (they didn't start doing that til they'd been there a while and realized that covering the armor helped mitigate the heat from the sun in the desert), That seems to be a myth. There is nothing to suggest that the surcoat was adopted to protect armour from the sun. Perhaps...

Re: The Knights Templar
As Dan says- Templars didn't wear plate armor; by the time plate armor was becoming the standard, their charter had been revoked and their leader burned at the stake on charges of heresy (1314 AD). It all depends on which Crusade you're looking to draw your inspiration from. Mind you, the bulk of ar...

Re: question on helmet padding / specific for a gondorian he
I purchased one of those ebaY padded coifs and it suits my Gondorian helm just fine. Even better, since it isn't permanently mounted it is a simple matter of pulling it out for washing; since the coif is semi rigid it stays in all by itself.

Re: Unique shield shapes in history?
The bottom image of the two dudes in Templar pj's reminds me of the shields that were used in the First Alliance battle of elves and men against Sauron; I think the Elven leader had sharpened edges on his for offensive use. Not Elrond (he didn't appear to use one), Gil-galad.

With alot of younger dogs it's like I said, they've never experienced the amount of people and temperament, emotions, adrenaline, and all around rush of the fight. Or they're not used to it, but assuredly, they have been shown and taught SCA style of rules. Their actions are their own on the field ...

I hear you, but it sounds like your outfit is responsible for the majority of offenses on the field whenever your group is present, hence the discussion. Not having a dog in this fight it makes little difference to me, but I'm of the mind that if there's anyone out there who subverts the ruleset to ...

I have seen his torture tests and his stuff has been approved by the SCA kingdom of Caid for light duty heavy jousting. But to the best of my knowledge it has not been approved yet by any kingdom in the SCA for heavy list. Just to be clear, in Caid is it approved as "rigid protection" for light jou...

You do not have a set price on the time you spend in crafting? A ballpark figure might be nice so folks have a sense of whether or not it is something they want to or can afford.
