Maybe it's cheating, but I use a stainless steel canteen in the appropriate shape and wrap it in leather using the techniques shown in these tutorials. Thorgrimr did mine...it was nice, but took a LOT longer to get than was previously noted by him. Still, it is really nice- although the wooden stopper doesn't quite fit the mouth- if I hold it upside down, water will drip out but it is a nice finished piece and it wasn't too bad of a price.

How is your sizing measured? You mention the red gambeson is a M but that doesn't mean much by itself. What type of closure options are you offering?
