This one would be do-able for SCA combat. It has a hinged visor held down with a spring catch, if I'm seeing it right. Right?

Re: welded cup hilt
It depends on design, if your doing something else to add a bit of strength like flaring the edges, adding a ridge at the seam or something 16 mild will hold up quite well. Blocking with the basket hilt, punching the shield, or hooking with the cup hilt can add a bit more wear especially on the mou...

Understood, Frank.
I love my 14th Century boots I got from you and drove an extra 20 miles Tuesday night so I'd have them to fight in at practice. (Doesn't help to load gear in the trunk if you forget your boots).

Has a site for Crown Tourney been chosen? The kingdom calendar still says "TBD."Morgan wrote:Update, he will accept the accolade and be knighted at Crown Tournament July 5-7. I'd guess he'll sit vigil on the 5th and be knighted in morning court before the tournament begins.

Re: 2" rattan in Meridies
I typically use around 1.5" rattan to make my swords; since I like a longer stick anything bigger than that starts to feel unwieldy. What would be some of the advantages of using the big 2" rattan? Am I missing out on something sweet here? There are a number of advantages, among them; Shaved ratan ...

I don't have a 2 in. sword (yet), but it is their kingdom and therefore their call.

This arm http://www.allenantiques.com/A-186.html appears to have the material intentionally placed not only in certain plates, but in certain portions of those p...

Re: Strapping a Heater shield
Keep in mind that the adjustable forearm strap will alter how the shield hangs, depending on how tight you strap it to your arm. If the strap is loose, the shield bottom will swing forward as you hold it. If the strap is tight, the shield will be rigid and doesn't move very much. It's all very pers...
