Re: Feeler: Roman helmet for sale

Daily bump. Price is OBO so feel free to make an offer. Worst I can do is say no, or counter. To sweeten the deal I will include basic crown padding made from Windrose Armoury closed cell foam. Be aware that extra padding may be needed. PM me with any other questions. :D

Re: Another helmet! (3d)

I like it. It certainly looks like functional armor. I really like how the texture resembles steel and brass, even close up. Well done!

They were done cold. I believe I've dialed in my welder since this was done though I am going to finish future grills better. Til now most of it has been hidden by chainmail.

Re: Vendel helmet

Spasibo! It was fun to make. It'll be hard when it comes time to sell it- I even considered making a new kit around it. I do have my eye on the Vendel 7 brasses..

Matt, are you planning on making a few grills in stainless? If so, what might the price be?

Re: Feeler: Roman helmet

I wasn't going for any period with this helmet, more of an impression for SCA hard suit. I learned a lot making this one and if I make another I might go for a specific type. I figured if I got too specific it'd be more difficult to sell.

Re: Vendel helmet

Thanks, Swete. I'd say less than two pounds for these brasses. Much less than the Vendel 7, which I'd like to make someday. I forgot to mention the lower attachment points of the grill, which I formed to resemble raven heads.

Early Roman infantry helmet : SOLD

Iron monger 12 gauge mild top, 26.5 inch inner diameter with 14 gauge mild cheeks and neck. From what I've learned this is closest to a first century infantry helmet. The brass brow and ears are 14 gauge. The brow reinforce is 5/16ths round stock which I worked cold-that was a chore! The gri...

Vendel helmet

I put this together using Raymond's Quiet Press Vendel 14 brasses. 14 gauge stainless dome, cheeks and curtain. I based this on the Vendel 14 since it has a chainmail drape like a Coopergate. The original had hinged slats for neck protection. I used a heavy stainless marine cabinet hinge to mimick t...

Re: Angle grinder for polishing?

When I worked in a welding fab shop I saw a small piece that a journeyman welder was working on get torn out of his hands and flung into his foot. He made a full recovery but he was lucky since he wasn't wearing any eye protection or gloves. I've always had a very healthy regard for power tools but ...

Re: Angle grinder for polishing?

A good friend has a bench grinder set up for polishing but I really don't want to be "that guy" and come knocking every time I need to buff something. Looks like I may need to look into putting a roof over my outdoor work space. Thanks to all for the insights and links!

Angle grinder for polishing?

Greetings! I'm sorry if this has been covered before but after a quick search I found nothing. My question is if I can use the 4.5 inch angle grinder I already have to polish some mild steel pieces I've made. I have no shop to install a bench grinder or I'd go that route. Any info would be greatly a...

Why not goggle occulars or vendel 14 style cheeks? With a nice nasal and eyebrows a minimum of grill work would be needed to complete the "face".

Re: hive mind -- experiences buying mail from india on ebay?

I've bought from allbeststuff in India. The aventail I got needed a couple moth holes repaired but the price couldn't be beat. Communication was always prompt though the website is a bit misleading as the "in stock" means they have the material to assemble the item listed-it still needs to be made. ...
