Re: What would you like to see as in stock items from me
Great suggestions! Expanding on the helm suggestion: early Norse spangens and back point bascinets(sp?) would probably be a good start. Neither type of helmet would need to be more than munitions grade since there seems to be a demand for beginner lids.

Gorgeous. I've loved the look of the clincker style top since I first saw one done by Knotwolf. Masterful. Some time with oil and a scrubby would work wonders. I've seen his work in person. One of my House Sisters wears one and I can say this helm is worth every penny. GLWS!

Re: propane forge or OA torch hot work
I've cold worked pieces from elbow/knee cops in 16 gauge mild steel to 14 gauge mild steel helmet halves joined by arc welding. All of these pieces are serviceable, if not 16th century "pretty". For rattan combat, I don't think normalizing is an absolute necessity if the material is mild steel given...

Bump and a question, do you currently have any bucklers in stock at the moment? I've been getting a lot of compliments and inquiries about the spring steel buckler I bought from you some time ago. I believe it was the work of your apprentice? It has an offset handle and has been used for both heavy ...

Re: Metal gauge for Wisby COP
I've been thinking of making a COP since I came into a ton of light gauge stainless(panels from broken coffee makers, 22 gauge I think) and I was wondering if rolling or just folding the edges would help with wear on the covering. This would add tedium to the assembly but might be worth it?

Re: Novice Needing Advice
Moving 14 gauge mild is not that difficult with a stump and the right hammer. I recommend starting with mild steel. It's usually inexpensive and forgiving to work with. You will need a good planishing stake and polished hammer to pound out the uneven areas but you may be surprised at what you can ac...

Re: Jap helm mempo patterns thoughts ideas...
That looks good already. An idea might be to get fancy with the bar grill on the next and make it look like a "face". I've been toying with the idea of making a Japanese helmet but up here dark age and early Rus helmets seem to sell better. Out of curiosity, what gauge are the lames(I never remember...

Ebay is your friend. That's how I got my 3/16th clecos. I've assembled several helmets with them and they're still going strong. I got a set of 25 which came with the pliers that attach & remove them. Here you go: https://www.google.com/search?q=3/16th+clecos&client=ms-android-samsung&espvd=1&source...

Re: First Helmet Tips
Clecos are reusable and fairly long lasting. Inexpensive when you consider most number 10 nuts and bolts are good for one or two mockups before their threads are gone. This is especially so if they are to hold pieces together while they are hammered on. An inexpensive ball pein makes a suitable plan...

I've had good results by making "spangen" out of foam to fit your head, then adding closed cell foam where needed. Leave room for a simple arming cap and Robert's your mother's brother.

Re: Attaching an Aventail to a Helm
For the Norman I'd unmount the nasal then cut a strip of leather that goes around the bottom of the helmet's top. Punch small holes along the bottom of this and sew on the aventail with heavy waxed thread. You can sew or rivet the leather onto the helmet and sew the front of the aventail to the gril...
