What is your buget for your helmet? Icefalcon Armoury or Aesyr Metalwyrks are hard to beat. Windrose may also have something in stock.

Re: Best sandpaper for stainless?
I am unsure of the exact grit of the little flap wheel. All I know is it was finer than what was used to grind the outter weld. The initial outcome was better than expected and more than sufficient to the task. I will experiment with other materials when I can get my hands on them but so far, so good.

Re: Best sandpaper for stainless?
I experimented with a flap wheel(150 grit I think) in my right angle drill and finished with a few different grits of wet/dry sandpaper by hand before blackening one of the tops. It isn't perfect or "I can see myself" shiny but I'm happy with how it turned out. I will post pics soon. Busy weekend!

My Windrose COP is light leather with aircraft aluminum and no canvas backing. Seems to be holding up just fine.

Thanks much! Being as how the parts are stainless I'm not so concerned with rust as I will most likely be chemically blackening them.

Best sandpaper for stainless?
Greetings! I will be working on a few stainless helmets soon and need to know the best way to get a uniform satin finish. The tops I have are two piece welded with the weld ground on the outside. The grit used for this seems to be quite rough. I have limited tools and no belt sander so I'm ok with e...

Re: Dishing Help Please
http://www.armourarchive.org/patterns/greathelm_ab/ Little if any dishing. Looks good is very subjective but these helmets can be made quite spiff with artfully done breaths and contrasting crosses on the face. You could easily blacken the helmet and leave the Hospitaler style cross bright metal. Th...

Re: Dishing Help Please
Since you have what sounds like a suitable steel hammer hit up Halberds here on the Archive about one of his dishing donuts. A stump will probably not suffice for that heavy a gauge. The steel donut is a sweet bit of kit that makes dishing all kinds of armor a joy. I've only dished 18 up to 14 gauge...

Thanks for all the input gentlemen! I had thought of asking Sir Dongal but was too shy to approach a professional armorer about a pattern. Re: Helmet pattern
Thanks, Hal. I've seen your spangen top pattern and I may try it soon but the helm top pictured is constructed of overlapping panels and a top cap, no spangens. I love spangens but they're ubiquitous and I want to try something a little different. Perhaps if I enlarge the spangen into pieces that mo...

Helmet pattern
Hello all! I've been experimenting with my dishing hammer and donut I got a while back from Halberds. I have found 14 gauge mild to be well within my ability to dish and I would like to start making my own tops. Specifically, I'd like a pattern for this type of top: http://www.gettyimages.com/detail...

Re: COP or some other cheap Body Armor
A simple COP with plates made of the material of your choice and a heavy fabric shell can virtually disappear under a spiff viking tunic. Job done. Many argue against lamellar for viking persona. It's ultimately up to you. Mad Matt here on the AA sells COP patterns. Good luck on your quest!

Re: 15th Century Russian helmet that is conducive to fightin
Aesyr Metalwyrks does amazing Russian helmets. Icefalcon can also set you up. SCA style helmets don't tend to be as tall and pointy as their historic counterparts as this would make some of the shots we throw difficult if not impossible.
