Re: WTB: Cheap Gauntlets,Used or New
If you have a 16 oz ball pien and a stump and something anvil-ish to set rivets on you can put these together with patience. Like I said if you don't fell comfortable I'm sure someone near you might even be willing to teach you. All of the holes are where they need to be save for those that locate t...

Re: WTB: Cheap Gauntlets,Used or New
Polarbear Forge sells a mitten gauntlet kit that is a lot of hand protection for the money. Even if you aren't comfortable assembling them, someone near you may be able to. Worth a look IMHO.

Re: Looking for a starter helmet
I have purchased an aventail from allbeststuff and one from custom chainmail. The allbeststuff was unbeatable for the price but I found Custom Chainmail to have a superior product for a comparable price. I used an aventail from Custom Chainmail on the Rus helm I recently completed. http://forums.arm...

Re: Looking for a starter helmet
You can get a lot of helmet for that kind of dosh. Icefalcon, Windrose, and Aesyr Metalwyrks could hook you up to name a few. I will have a helmet for sale in that price range come Monday but shipping might be spendy. Good luck on your quest!

Thanks for the kind words, gentlemen. I used a small burr bit and my dremel for the etching. Two passes were required for some sections. I think I have a few more gray hairs after completing it but well worth it for the experience!

Re: New to armouring - first attempt - need advice
Halberds here on the Archives sells an awesome dishing hammer. If you want to use a stump to dish into a 4.5 inch angle grinder with a 40 grit flap wheel will grind a nice, uniform bowl to dish into in short order. A 16 ounce ball pein will serve you well for general purpouse duties, just round the ...

Rus helm
This is the result of several months of work. It took that long since I worked on the helmet when I found time. The top is 12 gauge mild made by Jackie of Shamrock Armoury. The more I looked at it when I got it the more it reminded me of Rus conical helms since it looks like a one piece conical inst...

A suspension system augmented with the very best closed cell foam sized to accommodate a padded coif. Currently my helm is padded with foam only as heat retention isn't a factor where I live most times.

I found myself in need of a dagger and contacted Iron Badger. Re: Rust Prevention Test: What Product Resists Rust the Best
I'm interested in these results. The main reason all of the metal in my kit is stainless steel or aluminum is because I sweat buckets. I really want a chainmail shirt and love mild steels price point but I'm afraid my body would quickly turn mild steel to dust.

Since it is primarily chainmail which you're trying to protect, I wonder how some of the new, clear motorcycle chain lubes might work? Just a thought.
