I'm no expert on this type of armour, but it looks very nice given what its made of.

You can't go wrong ordering from Viking Leather. Their footwear is comfy, tough and good-looking, and Frank's customer service is second to none.

Re: Anouther set of promises from Westcoast....
Well after more years and time than I want to think of..... The replacement armor substituted for my original helm arrived last night. The armor itself looks nice enough but at this point I am just glad that it finally made it in some form or another. For those who are still waiting for stuff, stay...

Re: my completed kit well kinda
Tunic(or t shirt since it won't be seen), then gambeson, then plates. If the plates are blue plastic they can be hidden by a light super tunic before finally donning the hauberk. Barrel plastic will suffice, yes. You will still feel a solid shot but badly bruised or broken ribs should be a thing of ...

Re: my completed kit well kinda
When I started fighting heavy, I had several years of rapier under my belt. People commented on my footwork which I attributed to rapier fighting. I too felt very top heavy and awkward in my heavy kit(especially my current helmet which really discouraged me) until I realized I had developed some bad...

Re: Using Belt Mounts as Rivets
You can use copper rivets and file the heads as suggested. From here you can peen over the hidden burrs and call it done. Another option to make them look like dull metal is to heat the heads and apply some rosin core solder and *poof*, no more copper. Another option might be to make decorative caps...

Sorry, I thought I mentioned it last Tuesday. I do plan on this visit annually if we can. The drive alone is worth it for us. Next time we'll make it an overnight trip and maybe stay in the high country.

A positive review: Windrose Armoury
My Wife & I are in Arizona to visit family so we decided to make the scenic drive to Windrose's new shop in Snowflake. I got a new shield blank, boss and some needed odds & ends. We got a full tour and were treated like visiting royalty. My ordering experiences have always been on par with this in-p...

Re: critique armor
True, but beginner fighters should have enough armor to feel comfortable on the field. This tends to help build confidence-less bruising & injuries. Norwegian Tyrant is getting help with the soft kit, IIRC. If I get a set of black fleece leg wraps I'll send him the spare pair. Period pants, shoes, a...

Good point. A tunic, pants, leg wraps and a pair of shoes from Viking Leather(with lugged soles) would be about as much as a decent mild steel riveted hauberk.

Re: Now for something slightly different
550-793AD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTwG5FBV_ss From what I've seen of helmets with the R.Q.P. crests they stand up very well since not too many people seem to get clocked in such a way to cause them much harm-at least in SCA style combat. I would guess if you made your crests of 14 gauge mild ...

Re: WTB chainmail
Perhaps the most cost-effective way would be to buy a sheet or two of the pre-made riveted sheets from eBay and some extra rings & rivets and make your own. Butted shirts aren't an option for the reasons mentioned. If you this route, you could always use any extra for a camail/aventail for your helm...

Brass plating
I'm curious if anyone has a plating service they can recommend to me. I have a few simple pieces(nasal, shopulder cops, etc.) that I'd like to get all nice and bling-y. Shipping is a factor since I'm in Alaska but I'm sure most of the pieces I have in mind could fit into a large flat rate box. Thank...

A zoombang max coverage shirt qualifies as kidney protection IIRC. You could wear chainmail over that and call it good, or even just a tunic as suggested(I would opt for some extra plates over the ribs). I don't know about vikings wearing lamellar though I'm fairly certain they didn't wear COPs. Tha...

I love the stainless conical spangen I got from Dave. It's sexy and built like a tank. I'm pretty sure Pitbull armory is also taking commissions at this time. Icefalcon armory will probably have what you're looking for in stock.
