Re: Starter hat
I managed to drill the aventail holes in the curtain piece and make the top, and bottom bars for the grill. Sorry for the lack of pics. I will post them when I get a chance.

Re: Coppergate project
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm just getting over a cold and my clecos came in. I hope to start blackening pieces soon. I've been toying with ideas for the grill or face. I have to make the cheeks and go from there.

Price reduced bump. If it doesn't go at the reduced price I'll just keep it.

These look ok but I would replace the thumb with one that grounded before using them. Finger bucklers, too for sure.Ursus Epicurius wrote:http://www.ebay.com/itm/191528167367?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT#

Re: Loaner Gear
Sorry Konstantine, regional thing. It's how my dad used to shorten my uncle's name. Back on topic, moving blankets make good basic gambisons and can usually be had cheap. Water or glue hardened demi gauntlets can be made easily enough. There are lots of good patterns here on the Archive and Mad Matt...

Re: 16g hourglass finger gauntlets Ukraine vs India
My hands are a big part of how I make my living. I saved up for a quality pair of finger gauntlets and I feel it's worth every penny. I'm willing to skimp on some things. Protecting my hands and head aren't amongst them.

Khotya. You worry me sometimes. A lot. Please, step away from the keyboard. I joke. Lots if good information to be sure. Pickle barrel, jigsaw and some copper rivets can go a long way. I'd offer more help but it's quite a drive from my Barony/Principality. Folks closer to you might be able to help a...

Re: Period fighting boots
What sort of period fighting? I have a pair of two buckle shoes and five buckle boots from Viking leather. I have fought heavy rapier and SCA hard suit in both and love them. I heard he was backed up but that was months ago. It'd be worth giving him a buzz, IMHO. http://www.vikingleathercrafts.com/v...

Re: Perf plate for rattan helmet
For rattan? I could be wrong but I suspect any type that would does not allow a 1 inch dowel to penatrate would suffice. Depending on how the face is designed I would go no thinner than 14 gauge. Do you have any pics of your helmet?

So I've been toying with the idea of heating the panels to a straw gold and blackening the rest but I'm afraid this might clash with the brass nasal and rivets I will use for assembly. What does everyone think? All blackened?

Re: Brass Mail?
India. I've ordered from them before. Good communication, actually but be aware that "in stock" means they have the material on hand to construct the advertised product. I wonder how a brass aventail would hold up. Seems like it would want for a bunch of maintenance.

This helmet was thought up with an aventail in mind. Here is one I put together for a local fighter using one of Jestyr's blackened riveted aventails. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd152/aleutdude_2007/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-05%2021.18.30_zpsv7udumyj.png Ignore the rivet poking out-that's wher...

Spasibo! The grill will probably be quite plain 1/4" mild roundstock since the helmet is designed to have an aventail.

No progress since work ran late today. This is the chain I plan on using for the drape. I seem to recall reading the original had forged links but I had this wedge riveted piece and beggars can't be choosers. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd152/aleutdude_2007/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-05%2018.13...

Re: Coppergate project
Thanks! I get my clecos fairly cheap from amazon but I will save this link. Any input from you on designing the grill would be a huge boon to me. I've seen wonderful Coppergates with unimaginative grills cobbed onto them and want to avoid this look. I had thought to make a "face" out of grill work b...

Starter hat
I've been wanting to do a sharp starter SCA hat for a bit and was able to get my grubby paws on a sweet 12 gauge stainless round top(thanks Sir Gregor). After sanding and chemically blackening the top I played with an idea to dress up a Windrose nasal with flat head brass rivets. What does everyone ...

Thank you, Halberds! The dishing hammer and doughnut I bought from from you are invaluable to me and still going strong! I will post pics as I make progress.
