Re: Coppergate project

Thanks for the kind words and pointers! It's been fun so far. I may adapt this pattern with a more narrow brow band for regular spangens. I like the wooden chisel idea!

Re: Coppergate project

In profile and from the front mine is more rounded and fitted to my skull than the original. I made cardboard templates of the brow band and center ridge band which stretched quite a bit after forming and planishing. So far it's been a good learning experience and I thank you for your input!

Re: WTB Roman helmet

I can do a munition grade 14g mild steel roman helm for around $100- $120, but I have 3 other helmet orders to finish so it would be a month or so before I could make one for you... However with you price range you might want something a bit more stunning. I guess it really comes down to how much S...

I make SCA pieces locally on a hobbyist level. I don't know if you want to include such but I bet there are quite a few non professionals turning out good stuff, too.

I got the two side bands cut and one fitted. I love my clecos! A busy weekend means not much time to swing hammer, but I will try to post a pic or two.

I've been wanting one of these for a long time and this one would fit. If my vendel 14 sells and I promise my Lady to be a good boy I might be able to take this off your hands, Your Grace. In any case, GLWS!

I wonder if rivetsonline could make a run. I'd be down for a couple hundred or so. I bet they'd help for helmets, especially.

I wonder if a small piece of zinc sheet metal riveted to the armor would work? Might it not act like the zinc blocks bolted to the hulls of steel ships?

Re: Darkwood Armory Spring Stainless Fingers.

Trade in part, sure. Weirdly enough I was going to initially offer the 14 up in trade for a good pair of finger gauntlets. I managed to acquire a pair of Darkwood's awesome stealth gaunts in the meantime, hence my interest. The only thing I'd be interested in trade for the 14 at the moment would be ...

Re: Coopergate project

Well photobucket is giving me fits. I have the brow band and center ridge band cut out and rough forming done on the center ridge and brow band. 14 gauge stainless steel. Pretty sure the alloy is 304. I will do my best to post progress pics as I go, provided photobucket behaves. Do any spangen maste...

Coppergate project

Greetings! After using brasses from Raymond's Quiet Press on a couple helmets I decided it was past time to make my first spangen top. I've always loved the look of the Coppergate helmet and since R.Q.P has a spot on nasal, I thought even I might be able to make a passable SCA Coppergate! Pics and p...

Re: rivets

I'd use 3/16ths shaft diameter for the spangen top. You can use 1/8 but you'd need roughly twice as many. Steel or brass rivets would work. 3/16ths for articulated joints for durability.

Obviously not made of 10 gauge. Specifically, these are the items which sell in volume. I always found this funny since they are some of the easiest to produce.
