aluminum gauntlets

Here are a couple of pictures of my aluminum gauntlets. they are 16 gauge with stainless steel rivets so that there will never be a rust problem, already strapped out. Also very light, less than half the weight of the mild steel gaunts I sell. $145 if you're interested. Check, moneyorder or even pay...

Got a nice pair of 16 gauge aluminum clamshell gaunts with enclosed thumb tip. I was going to sell them on Ebay next week. They are made to the same pattern as the ones in the link below. VERY light!

After being married 23 years it would definitely be cheaper to keep the wife. By the time the lawyers got through with me I'd be living in a studio apartment, walking to work, giving her half my paycheck and eating shredded cardboard and milk. Not that she wouldn't deserve everything for putting up w...

Storage For Big Pile of Steel?

I just purchase 2000 pounds of 18 gauge cold rolled in sizes ranging from 2X2 to 2X 5 feet long. I'm going to have to build a plywood storage container out behind the shop for this. My question, Do you think the storage container should be totally closed off to the environment or would it be better ...

I've got a half finished Coppergate that I plan to work on next week. It's sized for my 23 1/2 inch head with an inch of padding. If it's something you might be interested in I'll provide a link to the pic when it's done. I've got a pile of little projects to get to first though.

Lets not be hasty here! How about the fact that the are dishing or work hardening the breastplate using a nearly flat anvil. Perhaps there is a technique here worth exploring. Carefully working the piece all over like this would both planish and harden at the same time,...right? One tool to do two p...

Favorite Leather Technique Websites?

Does anyone have any favorite leather working sites that give tips on cutting, different stitches, tricks etc. that might benefit a leather noob such as myself? I'm working on my personal late first century Roman kit and don't want to embarrass myself by having my kit fall apart and/or look crappy.

I have a bent railroad spike welded to a piece of pipe and ground into a ball for those hard to reach places. Then again you could just put that last rivet in from the inside and after peening, dress it up real pretty with your small ballpeen. Most people won't even notice.

The drip idea is excellent. I seem to recall something about this from my Woodright shop books. I think I need to break them out for a look. Even if my son doesn't use it much it will look great in front of my shop.

My son wants to use it in his sword making experiments. I'm thinking about putting a tray of water under the wheel to keep it wet to cut down on the dust and keep the blade metal cool.

I'm looking for a 1 inch leather hole punch, the kind that has a truncated cone head and is hammered into the material, hopefully cheap. Anyone got an extra one laying around they want to sell. I can get a new one for $28 bucks but have only a limited use for it and would rather get a second hand on...

cutting perfect round .010 brass discs?

I need to cut a large number of 1 inch diameter discs from .010 brass. Any idea how to approach this. Shears will only create irregular shaped discs. I lack a punch large enough to do this. Thoughts anyone? I'm toying with the idea of grinding a old socket but I'm hoping for a niftier idea. Thanks.
