Definitely the Moors in Spain - apparently there was a distinction at the time between the "white" Moors and the "Blackamoors", who are shown in murals in the Palacio Berenguer de Aguilar in Barcelona showing the conquest of Majorca in 1229 (painted about 50 years after the event). The faces are jet...

What are they basing the armour on? Do they have any accurate info to work from? Too often "Byzantine" is an excuse to do some mish-mash of "exotic" armor, when in fact Byzantine armour followed a few very sharply defined styles, and can be pretty definitively described and reproduced. See the links...

Just a question - what period (ie what century) are you interested in for this Irish thing? Irish gear changed over the centuries, in line with evereywhere else in the world. What an Irish Viking wore in 900 AD was very different from the Irish who opposed King John in the 12th century, and those wh...

The Osprey book is ok _if_ you stick to the primary source pictures and ignore the colour plates. However, for 12th-13th century Byzantine, I would recommend she look first at Tim Dawson's "Levantia" page - http://www-personal.une.edu.au/~tdawson/Levantia.html -, which is very carefully researched (...

There is still controversy about this one.
