That is not the problem it's the weight and the use of them in the SCA. When I see people using them in the "poke and slap" method I just wnat to shoot them. Those things were not light little play toys and there is a lot of good info on period polearm fighting. Yet in the SCA you don't see that man...

Use blunt force to knock the man down the stick a blade through his eye sockets, into his under arm, or groin. Just pick the weak area and shoot for it.

Somewhere in the darkest, foulest recesses I harbored the evil image of some rules-lawyering fighter subverting the good Earl Marshal's intent by laying down and "log-rolling" his way to a new location. You'll have to excuse me -- the nice man in the white coat says it's time to adjust the straps o...

Vebrand, Directed touch came into being while I was in the West. I believe the SEM was from Calontir (was it Siridean?). Most of what you say except directed touch were outlawed or made legal in several Kingdoms well before the SEM made the move. He may have allowed his local prejud...

Before you can do any of this, we need to boil things down a bit. If you want to talk about reworking the rulesets, might as well do it right. The way the SCA does it now works for the inclusive game they play. First: what period are you recreating? Greek != Roman != Viking != Agincourt != Cavalier...

The reasons for this topic was I read so much against fighting from the knees. As I posted before I am not fond of it because of my bad knees. I play by the current rules and go to my knees (in a fight I don't think of about it) but usually pay for it later . As many of you know I am in the Air Forc...

You don't like fighting from your knees. It's not historical, looks silly, plain hurts your knees, whatever you just don't like it. So what is there to replace it? Counted blows: As Noe pointed out there are flaws in melee of people loosing count or just not wanting to keep counting. In tourney figh...

The reason is culture and history. We have been fighting from or knees so long people can't seem to break themselves from it. The way change in the SCA happens and has always happened for the past 20 plus years is one Kingdom experiments with something and likes it. Other Kingdoms see this and adopt...
