Sooooooo... I have to ask what does an adarga have to do with the madu?

From a fighting point they work but can be beaten if you know how to fight them. From a historical point I hate to see those things on the field. I just don't like them.

An Tir is the big Kingdom that does not target arms. When the big thread ran a couple of months ago it was about An Tir as they have a passage in their fighting laws that to the effect says targeting the arm in chivalrous.

Meridies/Glenn Abhann hits and takes lighter on average than any other Kingdom that I have ever visited or lived in. Often to the point that I have to considerably alter my fighting in order to "play" along with fighters from these regions. Your Grace maybe you need to visit Gleann Abhann more ofte...

I don't understand the problem with this even if you did hit him in the shoulder six times. If the shots were light then at worst, you are guilty of throwing multiple light shots. Not a real big deal. If the shots were good, then he should have fallen down after the second. It would still be possib...

All they had was one Kingdom to base the SCA on and it took them a while to realize that different Kngdoms played t...

it has to come from the top i think. for example, i teach my students a few core things: always hit with intent. if you hit a man and he doesnt have to think about the blow you have done him, and this sport, a great service. that service is keeping the game spontatneous and constant. losing can be ...

I think Morgan settled this easily. If you go to Ansteora you don't walk on your knees. You fight in Meridies you fight at their level. If you fight in Atlantia they fight at your level.

To Hi-jack the thread a little: Is the SCA minimum for a helm to light compared to today’s fighters? When I first started in 1983 it was rare to see a helm getting dent like we see today. The body mechanics and speed were not at the same level. Like Logan I have dented 12ga SS helms before bu...

This is the way it has been explained to me by Sir Rey riBeaumont (who is a deputy Society Marshal). I disagree about there being no reason to have...

Russ there is good armor and bad armor. Does not matter what it is made of. I agree some leather and even steel armor can look as bad as plastic.

You can be just as fast in period looking or styled kits if they are made right as you can in other stuff.

Byram, I agree with what you are saying, but that was not the reason for the comment I made. The squire had fairly light armor, mostly hidden, for an early period persona and was looking at making some newer stuff that was light, and would look fairly period. The Knight was of the opinion that it wa...

Vitus, Having Pensic be a "no points war" will not fix the entire situation. Cheaters will always cheat and will want to win even if there are no points to be won. That spearman was very much in the wrong. Maybe he felt the need to hit with excessive force against the first fighter (which is dubious at best), but continuing to do so is just plain illegal.
