We arrived in SC yesterday and plan on heading down to Sumter on Monday. Man what a long trip Not sure when I will be out to fighters practice fighting as I have to get a house and a few things set up. Might have messed up my achilles tendon at practice in Little Rock. I blame it on Brandr's back ya...

*Arrived in SC* was packing up for Atlantia
The movers are packing up our stuff today (including this computer ) as we are getting ready to move. Which means I will only be checking the Archive only once or twice over the next few weeks. We leave next Tuesday; the movers are supposed to finish loading the truck on Monday. Then it is on to Lit...

I really am not too fond of giant open field battles. Not my thing, Short Fat guys dont run well. Bridge battles, Gate Battles, Airbourne assult on the fort I like. Dwarves are not long distance runners but great sprinters. Very dangerous over short distances. Shouldn't that be Dwarf Magnus...........

Hmmmmmmm.................. Do I like one above the other? Not really. Most people who know me would think I like tourneys more due to that is what most see me fighting. I do love the melee and being an on the field commander. To give commands during the flow of battle, and be right , is such a buzz....

Dmitry, I was wondering if you were going to bring that up. Must give a lot of credit and praise to Radu as I did not expect him to win, though I knew he had the talent and skill. Figured he would have too much else on his mind to be focused as needed. They are a great couple and will do a great job...

Vebrand, But what are you lookin' for? Stacy As I said, "Everything". I watch a new fighter fight and see what good things and what bad things they are doing. Then start working on what appears to be their biggest problem first. I break things down to try and handle them step by step to help them i...

Jester your first reply is my point on SCA fighting. It is what it is good or bad. Your second comment has been happening for years. I can remember doing a counted blows and alternate type of tourney around 1994/95 in the West. Those tourneys have grown more popular with tmes and it is not uncommon ...

Sorry, I misunderstood your reference. For future discussion, "heroic" is a backhanded reference to our system of acted blows, where it only takes one "heroic" shot to defeat your opponent. That said, the fact that some of our techniques may be ahistoric (anybody want to start the discussion on wra...

Alfred as always it is great to cross verbal swords with you. I have never looked at historical shoots vs "heroic" shots. I was just looking at how I fight in the SCA. To me, fighting in welding gloves and getting your hand smashed (silly man ) is no different than making your hand a legal target. I...

Strongbow that is what they said for the most part. The soldiers may have been protected from the arrows but their horses were not. Though I have not thought of it before an arrow hit you in mass number would distract you greatly. As I said I am no expert on this battle and I started this post to pr...

Rey, descibed a lot things that are pretty obvious. I fight a lot of lefties from a crouch and spring up from one side to another. Each person has something From that shot one can not tell if you were moving or sitting still. Were the two of you throwing shots and recovering or just about to engage?...

Jester I have thought a lot about this over the last few years. I went to a Gulf Wars a couple of years back and fought pick-ups to see how I blocked and played it both ways as if hands were legal and not. It changed how and from where I delivered my blows. What I determined was in SCA combat, that ...

Malcolm that may be true and since most accounts are after the battle (like most Medieval battles) and thus we will never really know the truth. Tis a shame because there are several battles I would love know how they actually played out. As with all history we have limited information to go on. The...

Re: Battle of Agincourt
I did have a problem with a very early assumption that the show made. They assume that the bodkin points used by the English were made out of softer iron because of the great expense of steel. This makes for a later test that makes the French armor proof against the bodkin points because the armor ...

Howzer, They did not mention the attack on the baggage train but the rest is pretty much how they described it. It does seem to make sense as they said at the time of the killing of the French nobles he did not know if he had won the battle and did not want a prisoner riot on his hands. Valstarr, th...

Battle of Agincourt
I watched a special this morning on the History channel's Battlefield Detectives. They went in depth on the battle from new and different angles. They started off with two battlefield historians who researched the actual field and it's topography. Then one found a English bodkin arrow head from that...

The rotation of one Baronial coronet a A&S tourney and the other a heavy tourney in many, many years old in the Far West and has be run that way with great success. I would not try it as a principality or Kingdom tourney, but it does work fine for the Far West. The travel and limitations on weight a...

We tried. Jester in particular made what I consider a herculean effort. But our pipeline from the group to the SEM simply stopped responding to anything. Debate and discussion are wonderful, but better serve the community in an open forum if they aren't going to lead to actions when held in a close...
