When did move up there? from Knoch He still lives in the West, but has sworn fealty to the An Tir c...
Jon I totally agree with what you are saying. I for one will attend such classes and look forward to them. I also think that teaching from manuals is a great idea. Not sure if enough people have access to them and the understanding right now, but it will start happening in the future. I am not sold ...
Jester you and I must travel in different groups because most those I know do not feel this way. Last I heard the SEM has allowed historical studies, even with rebatted steel at half speed, in class room enviroment. I think it is pretty obvious why greater than full speed is allowed at this time. So...
It's supposed to be a game. If you're not having fun you're not doing it right. That says it all..... If you are not having fun then why do it? If you want fighting advice, "SCA fighting is more mental than physical; I beat more people by thinking and putting myself in a position to win than by bei...
"Yeah I was talking about Ancient Greek and related cultures; from Mycenaean times through Classical. So, a Pas d'Arms formatted as an Illiad themed duel, within the rules of the SCA, with attendant pomp, circumstance and pageantry. This could also include Roman type gladatorial combat---done withi...
1) Because it is very hard to steer an aricraft carrier. 2) Because they don't have to. The SCA is a big behemoth that will take years to get to go in the direction of WMA. To expect them to adopt wholly new standards in less than 5 years is unrealistic. Besides, you are in a way wrong for malignin...
Like you I dislike madus and unpadded glaives. Just don't like either and don't fight with them. However you already know that Now I once saw this huge a$$ great-axe that looked like something Conan would be lugging around. As the guy ran across the field ot looked like a duct tapped version of the ...
BECAUSE....... No one has written it up and presented a really good reason with screaming about how the SCA combat is wrong and why not doing true "WMA" studys is ending the SCA. Vebrand playing poke in the eye P.S. like Jean Richard I am for this myself, now lets see how to make it work the right w...
HMMMMMM................ good food for thought. Let me see. So by your view rattan combat has not changed because the basic rules are not changing. It many ways this is true. From one who started playing in 1983 rattan combat has greatly changed. Yes the basics are still the same but the look, feel, ...
The question is what do you consider growth? What standard are you using that determines the growth. The fact that Pas de Arms are and counted blow tourneys are becoming more popular is that growth? Do you consider that half-swording is growth or not? Do you consider the standards of apperance in se...
I usually use Gorilla glue when curving a shield but I have had problems with the expansion splitting the wood on occasion. I haven't tried the Titebond yet but for a doming operation where you are making a complex curve you probably would get better result with that. Atleast that's what I think. B...
After May tourney Duke Uther seems to be the odds on favorite. From what I was told he was rolling through most everyone that day. Duke Sven is one who could beat him. From one of Duke Skepti's squires his grace is not fighting. Neither is Duke Thorrinn, or Sir Aethelred. Again that is all second ha...
Not sure if a list has been released yet or not. I have two squire fighting, Martin von Augsburg and Jon the Tall. I biased here, but think both could go deep in the list if they are on their game. Have to put Eric in the serious contenders list along with Radu, Count Seth, Sir Rashid, Sir Caillin, ...
One where I can hits people wid a stick 1. No weapon longer than 6 ft, without archery then repeat with archery. This works great on a bridge or gate front battle. 2. Capture the flag woods battle in a dense woods. I really like it when you have to think how to use the terrain to you advantage and c...
I have a plastic hilt by Sir Haroun of the Outlands. It does look ugly but I really the protection it offers. I have owned two hilts by Haroun and really like the space and design. I also have two Aluminum ones I use also. I know some who like Baldar's stuff and though I have never used them they se...
Sir Vebrand, Welcome to Atlantia! We'll be happy to have you. If you make it up to Eastern NC (or I make it down) I hope we can shake hands and greet as friends. Don't hesitate to let us know if you need anything. Alejandro Sumter, SC to Durham , NC is only 216 miles so that is fairly close when it...
Why don't you put your card in the hat? You've been around forever and traveled all over the known world. You have intrest in Youth combat and historical accurarcy. Your not too pushy either. Go for it. Not with my job. I can not say I will be able to be here without deploying at least once over th...
Folks things are moving. It is not going to happen over night. Take it from a guy who has been around the SCA for 20 plus years, we are moving quickly these days. In terms of the SCA "Historical Studies and styles" is very new so you have to expect the SCA to move slowly. Compared to the history we ...
Greetings Vebrand, If you haven't yet had a chance to check out the SCA activities and structure for the Sumter, SC area; I thought I'd give you a head start. You will be in the Barony of Nottinghill Coill m The nearest Canton will be the Canton of Cyddlain Downs in Columbia, SC. Cyddlain Downs has...
Let's see, you are squired to Kane and doing period tourneys....yep you are a freak. I think it is something that has grown in the SCA the more we learn about period tourneys and styles. Many people not only want to look the part but fight the historical styles. I have seen the interest grow and gro...
Holy crap! This is the first time I've looked through those pics - is that Allen on the field? I love the Rivival boots. Haven't tried the Vibram soles yet, but I've added them to my next shopping list. Dang, Brandr - that buckler looks like your dinner plate, mon. Yes, Marvin, that is Alan on the ...
