I have a 3/8" thick rubber mat on my bench top.
It is left over from wide conveyor belting, I also use as a floor pad.

Re: Newbie Workbench design question

Mine is about waist high, good to sit at also. I combined three 2 by 4's for the legs. The top was 2 by 4's Be sure to make a big shelf under it to store your tools. Use big drywall screws to hold it all together. The Beverly on one corner and a big vice on the other works quite well. I just C-clamp...

It has been 5 days and my eye is still painfull and red.
I have an appointment with the eye Dr. in the morning.

Yes, I was wearing glasses and a face shield.
The spark bounced around inside and right into my eye.

Safety first boys.

Re: My latest tool shipment.

Thank you Crisspie, I am glad you like them. They are just like any tools, they should be used for their intended purpose and taken care of. ie: do not use sledge hammers on them. The dishing ball hammer is 3 pounds. I think 2 or 3 pound dishing hammers are enough. (less fatigue greater accuracy) On...

Try match drilling and using nuts and screws as you go along to hold it down.
Ir make a tab top that bends over better.

Re: how do you... on helmet tops?

I rough cut the flat top then dish it. Place it on the helm then weld it from the inside. Grind it smooth to fit around the perimeter. Then cut a band (lip) to go around the top and clamp and weld it to the top edge. Come back and grind the seam nice and smooth. http://home.armourarchive.org/members...

Try to pattern your thumb tips with heavy kitchen foil.
It will shape, then you cut with scissors and flaten it out for the pattern.

The leather finger strips sewn to the gloves is standard me thinks.

Re: New forged stakes

I agree… it’s a shame stake tapers are not a standard machinist handbook chart like Morris tapers. Then they could be made on the Bridgeport with a fly cutter. I have faked a few but there is no guarantee they will fit one's stake plate. http://home.armourarchive.org/members/halberds/Tapered%20stake...

I do not need the original back, as this new one will not be nearly as sharp.

Those are excellent pics, however I have never seen real elbows or worn armour like that. I sure could use some full scale sketches with dimensions. A tool with the ideal shape would be quite useful, and I would be honored to build one. It would bring my tool making up to another level. The pics hav...
