You know Wolf, I thought they were dorkie too. I am pretty new to this and did not want to say anything bad. The pot can not call the kettle black. I would like to make a very nice helm that fits the period. I also want it to have some style. Some pizazz if that is ok. I ordered some 1/4" steel dome...

Yes the TV show was Conquest on the history channel. I could see all sides because they were sword fighting and turning around. I thought they were very pointed more so than my attempt at this helm. They also had nice chain mail shirts and tunics on. All and all I enjoyed the program. It is nice to ...

This is the norman spangen I am working on. It is small. It is 25" around the inside. It is 14ga. bands and nasel. It has 16ga. panels. It may have a 14ga. bronze cross. I can not give the weight until it is finished. The rivets may be 3/16" shank domed head. [img]http://www.cox-internet.com/halberd...

Thank you Sir. This is a pic of purposed nasal. It is 14ga. mild with a "to be" 14ga. polished bronze cross. The bands are 14ga. mild and the panels are 16ga. mild. I would like to polish the bands and blue the panels or polish the panels and blue the bands. Am I on the right track? I saw the pointe...

When your machines do not produce the polish and smoothness you desire. Get a bucket of water and sit down and wet hand sand it. Start with 380 or 400 automotive type wet or dry emery cloth. Now you can work out the scratches with finer and finer grits. After it looks great go to a new buffing wheel...

A stove? Doh? Now why didn't I think of that. I got a small propane tank I use for the forge and a heater for it. I should refill it now we got a cold snap. Actually I should have refilled it last week. Sounds like you Iain Ruadh have a nice ...

Thanks Chris. I saw your leather hammers. Looks like a good match for the dish. I used my small leather hammer in the dish to fine tune the spangen panels. Works great after roughing them out with the big ass hammer. Quote from Ben: Are the weldable pipe caps tapped to receive threads? No they are s...

Mad Mat. How to get warm armouring in the cold.
This may sound crazy but here goes anyway. Last night I had a deadline and had to work in the cold. 20 degrees F. Now that is cold for Texas. My barn is not heated. So I was shaking and thought to my self. Self come on man, your not a total idiot, figure something out! Then it hit me. Ah ha. I went ...

You will have to weld the coupling inside the pipe caps anyway. It is best to use the socket weld fittings all over. Much stronger than screwed fittings. I experimented with lead shot and BB's in the head, also a sliding weight in the handle...
