I have used that wheel in the machine shop. Very tidy. Clean neat smooth precision cuts.
How does one deal with the streaks it produces on a large area like a helm?

They are also at MSC supply co. about $49.00 USD.

This is a image of a mechanical one. Thanks to www.mechanicals.co.uk http://www.mechanicals.co.uk/mechanicals/assets/other/2hammer.jpg I think one would connect up a variable speed gear motor to the trigger cam output shaft with a flex coupling. 300 beats per min should work pretty good. I have found a wet hand sanding with 600 grit wet/dry emery paper will knock off the shine. It gives it somewhat of a gray color.

Go in small circles consistently. This will take hours.

Luck be good,

The tin/lead solder cost more. But it is a little harder. I like it. It is available in pure bar stock. Like what a commercial soldering machine would use.

The dome rivets stay domed.

This is great I can not wait to try it. I got a little 15 pound import anvil at the pawn shop. They had a 100 pound one also but I think I should wait until I find a real one. On your pics. I liked the steel best. I have always used brass on brass. It looked like you had this little cool contrast thing going. If the rivets were blue it would be more contrast but that may be a little over kill.

My 2 cents.

I know what you mean. I like to mark them on the inside with a magic marker and place it down on a flat piece of steel and lightly hammer them from the inside. Turn the piece back over and look close and you can see if you are doing any good.

Happy metal pounding.

I do not know. I know it will not pound out the dishing wrinkles in 14ga. in any length of time with your home compresser. 11cfm at 80 psi. That takes a diferent machine. One that does not set up there and rattle but one that hammers the shit out of it!

So is forging the best way to make a sword?
I had a grand idea I could make a sword.
I ground for weeks on it. It came out bad.
Just another sword shaped object. I can get my propane and fire brick forge hot enough to make steel bright orange. Would that work better?
