Re: Any intrest in my "Carlos the Crusader" helm kit?
Thank you for the info.
I think that is the major draw back to a kit.
I think Aaron will have this problem as he did not trim his head band.
This is the last of these kits.
If any one else has this problem let me know.

I helped a friend work on his model T.
I replaced the wooden spokes and all the wheel bearings.
It was interesting to say the least.
Is that is a monkey wrench?

Re: Home heat blueing quandry.
The small hand held propane torch is inadequate to heat blue a mild steel helm. One will need a more powerful heat supply. The large weed burner torch works much better. What one needs is a high consternation of heat over the entire helm in a short amount of time. You will need to make the entire he...

Re: Finished up my Carlos test helm.
Generally speaking... butted together with 4 rivets and their adjoining pieces is sufficient. A little hammer work over the ball stake can smooth everything right out. One can make a temporary working splice during assembly, using #10 screws and nuts with left over brow band material. Yes, I welded ...

Those 4 rivets in back, splice the head band together after you trim to your head size. The 2 upper rivets use the front to back band. The 2 lower rivets use the center back slat. You are welcome Aaron. I finished up my Carlos 2014 helm kit test today. Did a weed burner heat blue and 3-in-1 oil finish, very dark it is. I use a 5 gallon plastic bucket with a lid. Add 4 gallons of water then 1 gallon of muriatic acid, (swimming pool acid). Available at your local hardware store, also know as (cement cleaning acid). It also dissolves rust and corrosion on old weathered metal. It is a diluted hydrochloric for home use...

Re: Any intrest in my "Carlos the Crusader" helm kit?
Thanks for the progress pics. Aaron, the sides of the face plate and the back slats go inside the brow band. Be sure to trim your brow band to your size first, it is intentionally extra long. The back slat retaining strap also goes inside the back slats. Check this pic. PartsAssembly.jpg http://home...

Re: Any intrest in my "Carlos the Crusader" helm kit?
I had to have the back slats remade, the file was corrupted and they came out to short the first time. Your back slat strap should be 17" long. If it is 13" long you have one of the corrupted slats I had to make over. Inventory your other kits also and I will make amends if need be. Make sure all th...

Now to just get the guys pay for the rest of them so they don't stack up on the kitchen table.

This is one of my favorite topics. As I use it all the time with my metal art. The answer is yes, no matter what it is made of. One of the first things to knock off a shine, is to give it a good (green or gray scrubby pad) going over with 3-in1 oil. Pay attention to the grain of your scrubby pad str...

Note: Do not use blue wall mart camper foam, as it is not the regulation 1/2" thick. The stuff I got from them was 3/8" thick and it took a permanent s...
