I like planishing, it is Zen to me, however I have a lot of time.
Polish your hammers, bring beverages and lunch, I make a day out of it.
Munitions armour is useful and it does not have the high planish work.
I think it would be fine if you wanted rougher armour and you are happy with it.

OK, I should finish up my testing then. I took coreythompsonhm's advice and beveled the edges at the crease slot because it dug into the metal while using a chisel on it. Sean's idea about the bar grill bending lugs will also be incorporated into it. I can copy the lugs that are on my farrier anvil....

Thanks guys for the assistance, and I am forever indebted to Wade for the wonderful pics.
I have some new patterning considerations now.
No my wrist does not flex I was looking at something easier for the newbies and I wanted to attach the thumb with a leather thing.
Perhaps I can go both ways.

I liked Schreiber's lame idea. This is my first pass at the pattern. It's sort of like sabatons but they bend the other way. Perhaps some strips across the knuckle joints like Wades? I put a strip around the wrist to help rivet it together and hide the sins. GauntPattern 002.JPG It will probably tak...

Welcome to the mad house Azmreece. I like to use tin foil to shape over my body while wearing my padding. Shape and mold the foil, then draw with a sharpie the outline of the piece. How did it work for you? I design using the golden ratio and adjust the weight accordingly. 4130 chromoly tubing is used for my handles, I find it has a terrific strength to weight ratio. My first one was sch. 40 pipe, which was not suitable, I needed the weight in the ball, not the handle. It took ...

The roofing guys that did my house in sheet metal used a nibbler.
It made millions and millions of crescent moon shaped shards in the yard.
They policed them up with a big magnet.
Shears are better than nibblers IMHO.
My apprentice ruined the bench punch die set, by using it as a nibbler.

GuntherofOrkney, A simple test is to have the applicant dish a spangen panel after instructions. You do not look at how well he did the panel, you look for his dedication to the task and how well he follows instructions. I have had 5 apprentices through the years and 90% were a heart break. Only one...

Plasmaman made a very nice addition to the large tin/lead alloy forming dish. The cylindrical portion on the bottom of the dish will help him with his metal art. He is making some beautiful humming bird wall sculptures. The dishing into the form gives them a realistic 3D appearance. The dish: FormBo...

That looks like some fine steel for knife making.
A little grinding, sanding, polishing, heat treating and tempering they should be fine.
I have some dull carbide tipped circular 14" dia. cut off saw blades.
Would the base metal be of quality?
Best of luck on your sale.
