I have one from sears and it worked fine until I got my grizzly 2" by 72".
I never use it anymore as the griz is the boss.

Re: difference between 1074 and 4130?
I don't know if this enters the question... but I use 4140 for my tools.
I do not like to make armour from tool steel, as it is to hard to form cold, and I do not have a heat treat oven to properly harden it.
Just my 2 cents.

Use a green scrubby pad to highlight the glow and persona of the metal.
Oil or wax to suit your needs.
If you had copper or brass the wonderful greens could be applied.
Best of luck on your quest.

It is not SCA legal, I could remove the drape and add some back straps for more $.
It's 14ga. mild hot rolled steel. One of my later kit prototypes under test.
9" front to back and 7-5/8" side to side on the inside.
Best of luck on your quest.

A few tools I just finished up, in case a rush order comes along. These are finished and ready to go. I think that will be my last 3-3/4" ball stake. They are getting too heavy for my old muscles. I can do smaller ones, but that monster is too much. Also show is one of my pin stakes, it is made from...

For questions about is it deep enough to dish a knee or elbow. The elbow or knee does not bottom out in the doughnut.
