I would take the plasma torch to 10 gauge and do some art work.
However... I do not build helms anymore.
Just an idea tossed out there.

I like clamp and welding first also. Don't forget there's fake weld rivets. The back slats are very different and I like em. Can you do a grill from flat plate? Re: One night's progress on my first helm.
For the finish may I recommend the scrubby pad and 3-in-one oil. Oil it down and rub a scotch bright pad over the outside to bring a luxurious glow. Pay attention to the light patterns produced and adjust your strokes to suit. This will give it a soft blend of color and sheen. Best of luck on your q...

Re: One night's progress on my first helm.
Also a newbie tip I used to use. A cheap 2" rubber mallet whittled to a large dome on one end. (soft dishing hammer) A folded up old towel as a dishing surface. The floor as your anvil. Study the gentle curves in an old medieval great helm. This will really help when fitting the top to bottom. This ...

OH my gosh a shard thru the foot. You will need a shot if your not up to date, every 5 years armourers should get their tetanus shot. Nice gaunt parts white mountain, I would think the proper press tooling would be cost prohibitive for anything under 5,000 sets. Perhaps a general shape then finish up by hand over balls and such for each size. Best of luck on your quest. Hal PS: This is how I use my tools: http://www.youtube.com/wa...

Great find. I would scrub it with a scrubby pad and wd40.
I have taken mine apart and re-greased it.
They are supposed to be slathered with grease.
The gears and all the moving parts.
We need an after pic now.

Re: Valsgarde 6 Adventure (or) Let's Learn Techniques First!
Kudos, Some things can be reduced to the lowest common denominator. Some of my old kits were done with a 2 by 4 and a ball peen hammer. My first spangen panels were dished in the dirt and grass. I got smart and used a hole in a rubber mat. Then I thought, what the fuck... I'm a mechanical des...

I know what you mean, my materials for tools have gone up 80%. I always tried to give good value, but with the price of materials so high it concerns me. My go to guy for plasma cutting, made one of my old SCA helm kits in 05. http://home.armourarchive.org/members/halberds/plasmahelm3.jpg He built it for fun and put it for sale as art, he finally got $2500.00 for it. Yes the decimal point is in the correct place. I am in the wrong place. Hal
