My understanding is that Kydex is easier to work with and holds up just as well.

I didn't realize it was that much more expensive.

Yup. Irish has it. The rules have to fit the WORST CASE senario. NOt the 3 practices a week superduke who could probably use a running chainsaw safely in SCA combat, but the 300 pound mountain gorilla throwback fighter who practices 1 a month at best, hits Pennsic or Gulf Wars and maybe a few other ...

The webpage in the Midrealm is in a section accessable to EVERYONE - as are the rules of the list and similar info.

Huh. Midrealm puts them in the monthly newletter, on the Kingdom Marshal's website, usually on LegioDraconis, and I know the last two marshals in my area let the local fighters know about changes. I check over the Midrealm Marshal website and Legio on a regular basis - as a fighter (and a marshal), ...

They can be a lot of fun in a melee, giving you a "mid-range" attack as the shields advance. Plus people still get surprised when you throw it at them...

Archers in the second rank can be VERY surprised!

At least in my area, when an out of kindom vistor shows up for a fight practice or tourney or moves into the area, we usually arrange a little sparring / Q & A session to make sure they understand local conventions. And in my experience, people visiting have made an effort to ask and adjust, so ...

Aaron - Define "with muscle". You're making a fairly subjective test even more so. I might be considered "with muscle" but I'm a 90 pound weakling compared to Sir Gunnar Redboar. In my experience, if a weapon doesn't pass inspection, most of the time it is the thrust tip. It is u...

Stretching and warming up are two different things.

You do them together, at best you do neither well. At worst, it's like trying to throw a wrap and a thrust at the same time - something BAD is liable to happen.

I don't think the shaft of the arrow is as big a deal as the HEAD. Arrows need to be re-inspected before being ...

Huh. It does look like that, as I re-read. I guess the only other problem will be in reducing the haft diameter, getting more "fishing pole" polearms that are too whippy. Taking a 2" piece of rattan and planing it on 2 sides might not have that problem, but someone is gonna show up wi...

I'm thinking the rule was written to cover things like tsubas (however you spell it) or those s-style german guards. When hld in the hand, no enough sticks out to get more than 1/2" into a grill. A 1" stick of rattan as a blade is illegal, I don't see how a 1" haft of rattan could be....
