Use what is appropriate, hit what is open. If a lot of fighters are winning with the thrust, then a lot of their opponents aren't defending it properly. Somewhere, training is falling short. What is the difference between a sword and shield fighter standing at range and thrusting a down opponent as ...

Sometimes the Middle is horribly outnumbered, sometimes the East is. Despite the PR machine on both sides, not THAT many Pennsic Wars are "even" in numbers. But that is just the nature of Pennsic, like occasional lousy weather, and people in bad armor/clothing. Personally, I'm waiting for ...

You know, it didn't appear to me that a lot of people "quit" - I know some left to prepare for court, but it just didn't dawn on me that that many people had left - I was having too much fun.

And really mixing up the side seemed like it kept the battles fresh!

IIRC, of the 2 the Mid lost, 1 was due to injury (Knee), and the other due to letting their blood sugar drop too low.

Both are fine.

It was still a great day - I for one appracited the opportunity to "switch sides" even for a few battles!

1) Archers doing a happy dance look SHOCKED when hit by a throw spear (stablin) - got 2 that way.

2) I (still) can't keep up with Nissan and his guys in a field battle.

3) the Great Wall battle at Pennsic should be a HOOT!

Wonderful fighting, weather during the day was terrific, saw some great kits and camps, and met new friends (usually at the end of a spear or over shield edge).

I feel that is quite true, Dilan. One problem that I see here from time to time is that others believe our (Meridies) standards are incorrect and that *they* are more correct than us because of the rule book which states, as long as you use their interpretation, that they are, in fact, correct. But...

I feel if you are playing in another Kingdom - whether you move there, or are visiting for one tournament, it is you responsibility to abide by their accepted Kingdom standard of blow calibration and registration. If you can't, or won't, do that don't participate. But don't insult your hosts either....

Or nobody LIKES playing with you.

You move to a new area, or fight in a tourney in another Kingdom, it is your responsibility to adjust to THEIR standards, not the other way around.

The "throwing ring" sounds interesting and doable, but wouldn't the fins interfere with hand to hand combat? Besides, the weapon I'm using it as wouldn't have fins (short spear). Biggest problem I've heard is that people have a hard time getting a "clean release" with gauntlets. ...
