Depends who you are saying it to. Personally, when a new fighter tells or the multi-reign Duke tells me they had fun fighting me, I value the compliment equally. Maybe for different reasons, but I value one no less than the the other. If you went to a new fighter who just tried to make their first c...

Oh, was I supposed to be sweating? Sorry.... Give me a second..... .... .... .... Nope, still not sweating it. Something meaningful? I think getting 1000 guys on a single field all (mostly) embracing an honor based competition in the midst of our modern world is pretty freaking meaningful. And watch...

Personal dislike of what? I've done counted blows - it is fun! I've done a bout with small shields, and the SCA thrust and throw javilens, in when eveyone had to wear gauntlets (obviously). Didn't include EVERY fighter, so it was a small turnout. Just becuase 25 or so guys posting on an internet boa...

At one point, SCA folks DID use guige straps - but then someone came up with a bright idea that since shields in the SCA are indestructable, they rigged a shield strapped so they could use a spear - with a nose to knees, wider than their shoulders shield. With no face thrust at the time, they became...

Verjigorm - Sure it is - While you will find rabid people at every end of every spectrum in the SCA (Combat Archery isn't the only point of psychosis for some people, trust me), the vast majority of people in the SCA are much more moderate. Heck, the vast majority aren't on AA. Go, play, enjoy, grow...

(First - I've apparently been shrugging the occasional arrow at Pennsic....The ARCHERS never seemed to be bothered by it, but WHOOOPS! Sorry guys!) Maybe I've been lucky - I've never been shot that so often at a melee that it really bothered me. And never in the back. but then - I'm usually facing t...

No, what I said is that Ix falls within MY suspension of belief - just like when I fight Vitus in a tourney. Darth Vader wouldn't - could never get a marshal to pass that light saber without a LOT of duct tape. And sometimes Ragnvaldr - I got trouble believing a guy can move like that.... ok so answ...

Just that our entire GAME is a suspension of belief. We mix warriors from eras not even remotely close. Cutlures that never interacted (Lets say, Russian and England, 12th c, unless someone can show otherwise), we ignore the weapons and fighting systems that our personas would MOST likely use (comba...

Wow. 15th/16th century Aztec to characters from a science fiction movie. Your Grace, a leap like that should get you a place on the US Olympic team... Or at least on the Politcal Coversation Board. What about 5th Century Irish Warrior at a Pas? Roman? A 16th Century Russian at a Holmgang? What about...

Eh, I guess I just don't take the game so serious that I'll let someone else's persona mess with my fun. If it messes with yours that much, whatever - nothing I can do about that. And if we REALLY want to be honest with ourselves, the real warriors (Not just elite, either) of the Middle Ages would p...
