Re: Red Dragon - Midrealm [SCA] - Any other archiver's going
This is the second year we've run this format - it's pretty "loose", which is a challenge, but pretty much every fighter we spoke to last year LOVED it. In addition, 1/2 the field is designated "Period day camps only" - no modern shades, chairs, etc. visible. This was very well r...

The gauntlet is laible to get bound up on the basket hilt, especially if your hands get close together.

Next time someone wants to snark on Ix because of his portrayal, or his appearance, etc... Read the above.
A lot of fighters would have had a lot harder time making the choice Ix did so quickly and easily.
The man is KNIGHTLY.

Re: new rules
one set of rules for one sport. no variations. make it more about common sense and personal risk acceptance. give guidlines. actually train marshals before handing the warrants. i think it would be much easier and much more simple. AND maintaining the spirit of the SCA - as a Medeival Recreation/re...

I don't know any marshalls in the Midrealm who would be so petty. I mean, we have a few who are less than "awesome", but I've never come across one that unreasonable.

Well, that would seem to fix one big problem - all the rules in one place in a cohesive format. Then any other problems should be more evident and more easily addressed.
I mean, not that complaining on a message board doesn't immediately fix all the problems...

Re: No visible plastic
Here is how I define "jarring", Non-obtrusive, etc... Look at the person from say, 15 - 20 feet. NOT counting basket hilts, duct tape or bar grills, is there anything that IMMEDIATELY (like within 5 seconds) jumps out and says Modern / 21st century? No? Pass. The longer it takes to spot so...

How about... If an item either invokes the spirit of the time period allowed in the SCA, or is unobtrusive visually, then it is OK? Have you seen anyone in the SCA fight successfully at the top levels with a halberd consistently?
Well, in the Midrealm -
Duke Palymar
Duke Edmund
Sir Omerad
Sir Randolph Lee
That's off the top of my head - all are consistently top level fighters with a polearm.

Re: Is polearm harder than sword and sheild?
I wasn't trying to be flippant in my comment, BTW - I think a number of people have trouble with a weapon form becuase they EXPECT to. While the SCA rules by neccessity does limit certain weapon in various ways, I've seen too many people who have used pretty much every form allowed to great success,...
