Re: Dane Axe
I try to go with a simple rule for my weapons - If it was there during the time and culture I portray, then I'll put it on my weaponry. I COULD see that a double handed "thrust" to the gut of someone in non-rigid armor could knock the wind out of them, it wouldn't be a fight ender by itsel...

Why not say "visible armor is proof"?
If you are portraying someone without armor, you don't get the benefit.
A surcoat or a tabard of course is the exception, if worn over otherwise visible armor.

Re: Falchion SCA swordplay- an emerging style.
Lighter swords allow them to throw faster - and they use a "snapping" arm motion to generate that speed, much like a baseball pitcher. But the pitcher LETS GO of the ball. The ball is lighter than a sword. And pitchers tend to have a strict strike count. This is something my doc calls (In ...

Payn -
Way I look at it, the falchion was made as a weapon. A machete was made as a tool for clearing brush, that was adopted as a weapon.
Kind of like a military flail and a grain flail aren't the same, but the grain flail COULD be a weapon.

At this point, I think the problem is too many words, not enough action.
Find 1 person that needs help w/ this problem. Talk with them, offer to help or teach. Tell them thing only rule is they have to do the same for someone else.
Problem solved - effectively

Plus, using a currently legal weapon in a legal way is the same as deliberatley breaking other people's property - disposable or not.

Wow, someone snuck in a thinly veiled combat archery reference by page 2!
Deliberate destruction of someone else's property is a bullshit move. And yes, the spearrman who deliberately lodges his spear in a haybale to make a trip line is being a douche too.

Spear, polearms, arrows, whatever....
Deliberately trying to destroy someone else's gear is among the highest form of asshattery, and should end up in a marshall's court.
And brought up to the offender's knight, crown, commander, whichever is appropriate.

Change gears.
Try a new weapon form for a bit. If you JUST do benchpresses all the time, you'll hit a point where you just get stuck at a particular weight. So you do ROWS to keep the muscles guessing, and allowing them to get stronger.
Same thing for skills, physical or mental.

Personally, I've gotten 4 or 5 guys out of the Dark Victory-esque armor by showing them how much better armor works when it fits properly.... See, I don't have a problem with the word "attempt" as much as how some people DEFINE it (to either extreme). I've done the Walmart pajama pants, with added ties at the ankle, that work rather well for my portrayal. A heck of a lot more accurate than most of the kilts worn at an event. Now...

Well, you pretty much answered your own question.
But face it - a lot of new folks get their first impressions of the SCA on boards just like this. And a lot of what I read here (and a growing amount, IMO) would turn a lot of them off.

Re: Not so hidden armor
"Don't be a jerk" should be a stand alone rule.
There are a lot of ways to get others to improve their look, on and off the field. Insults, being over-confrontational, or putting on an attitude of superiority probably don't fall very high on the success scale.
