Re: Cutting Coins
I just took a wood chisel and mallet to one of my Alpha Officium Henry II pennies and turned it into four farthings, with great success. Ass you say, the cross makes for a good area to place the chisel blade. Unfortunately when I struck one of the two half pennies, it slit and went flying in two sep...

Re: Cutting Coins
Derian, I really want to thank you. That was as fantastic an explanation as one could have given. I knew that they used shillings and pounds in England as a quantity of pennies, but I didn't realize that they didn't actually have coins for those particular quantities. I suppose that would explain wh...

Cutting Coins
I was watching the miniseries, "Pillars of the Earth" last night, (good series, although the armor is horribly inaccurate, in a lot of cases) and I noticed that a trader would cut his coins in half if say he was buying wool for 1/2 pound. He just put a pound coin on his table and chopped it in half ...

Re: Does anybody own this Phrygian Nasal Helm?
For living history and "light sparring" using boffers/foam weapons it SHOULD be enough, but not against rattan. Honestly if you are ok with a little DIY and have a peening hammer and drill, you could get a helm top from Rough From the Hammer, then add a band around it and the nasal piece very easil...

Re: Does anybody own this Phrygian Nasal Helm?
Oh! That's a good point that I forgot to bring up. I'm not planning on using this for SCA purposes. However, it could see some light sparring. It's mainly for Living History purposes.

Does anybody own this Phrygian Nasal Helm?
Hello all, I'm not sure if this is the right area to post this, and if I'm mistaken, I apologize. I have long been interested in the Phrygian Nasal Helm that's supposedly based off of one in the movie Kingdom of Heaven (I don't remember seeing it, but it's been a few years). It's been on the market ...

Re: Heavy duty Gloves with maille covering BLOWOUT!
Dear Icefalcon, I got my 6mm gloves yesterday. I wanted to let you know how extremely impressed I am with this entire transaction. The quality and price of the gloves themselves are unrivaled. The shipping price and speed was amazing. Imagine my surprise when I open my mail box to find the item I pu...

Re: Heavy duty Gloves with maille covering BLOWOUT!
I purchased a pair of the gloves this morning. I would prefer the 6mm if it is not too late. Thanks.

Re: Living History Medieval villages
I live in Olympia, and am going to Camlann on the 18th of August. It sounds pretty spectacular, although it seems the guy in charge has pissed off the local SCA people. Unfortunately, they don't allow cameras, which is actually pretty cool, helps you feel like you're actually in the Middle Ages. I d...
