Isabella, you should probably add the gauge and material. It looks like stainless, but considering you're in Adenvelt, it being dry there and all, I suppose it could be super polished mild.

Otto is the cheapest sources for gorget that I'm aware of. 16g mild IIRC.

4130 might be a good option. Let people form and temper their own and 4130 is relatively cheap and forgiving.

Also, tangent question. About crossfit, how is it as an exercise system? Is it good for SCA conditioning? Are they as nuts as I hear? (Bear in mind nuts might be what I need to get into the shape I'd like to be.)

2. Move, move, move. It's funny that with any two handed weapon I move around just fine, but once I get a sword and shield I just stop and plant. Have you tried using a buckler while fighting? As a new guy, my foot work improved a lot when I started using one. For added fun, use a buckler and a mac...

I was thinking a looser secondary tie. Loose enough to pull the helm off without untying, just enough to stop the faceplate from flopping wide open. Just a thought.

Re: 15th century gothic armor
Not small enough for ACL. More than enough for BOTN, just not the american team in BOTN (Correct me if I'm wrong, but last I saw it was no openings wider than 1" for ACL and open faces were still allowed for BOTN)

Re: what is the best tipe of helm for hmb/BON
About the klappvisor belt being cut, would it be too anachronistic to have it covered with small 18 or 20 gauge spring steel plates? Obviously not the buckled portion, but for the rest of it?

Re: what is the best tipe of helm for hmb/BON
Truth be told it is a personal choice, in Polad I had a bacinet and in France I used a kettle...I was not super pleased with the performance of the kettle (and that does not even cover the historical problems with the chain covered bar grill). So to answer your question I have no idea. I think I am...

Damn kiwi grammar.
And I'd heard that a lot of people don't care for kettles, specifically the brim on the hat, as it allows for a leverage point on your head. Personally, I'd been planning on a klappvisor bascinet.

Re: bascinet splitvisor "mausehelm"
There was a touch of drama on the Team America FB page the other day about a 14g mild helm. Injury occured while using one. From my understanding, the injury was from a haft contacting a neck due to an ill fitted helmet, but the consensus was that a 14g mild helm was going to end poorly, even if fit...

Re: bascinet splitvisor "mausehelm"
So you guys say this is safe for BotN? Sorry, but I would like to hear from some BotN folks before hand. That is really inexpensive and for the folks trying out for team it is very appealing, but I also don't want to waste the funds I have for something that will not work with BotN/ACL. Make sense?...
