of people wearing shields? sure. of folks not wearing elbow armour? sure. No, that's not what I'm asking. Do you have any historical examples of knights with shields not wearing an elbow cop on their shield arm. Steve I think you should probably add "while wearing an elbow cop on their sword arm", ...

I like what george posted, and I'm likely going to try to model my norse kit after his suggestions. I, however, agree with Max, that this is far too detailed for what we'd like to do, especially considering that this is the first time it's being held.

I'm enjoying the discussion. Could I ask both of y'all to do a write up of what you think the Saxon standards and the Norse standards for kit should be? We've had several of those, ranging from the relaxed to the "Oh my god" strict. And I/we appreciate input.

We do have all the cool shit. After looking through a bunch of the 14th century manuscripts and other art, I have to say that I'm falling more and more in love with the one true century. So many wild ideas going on.

Halvgrimr, I actually agree a lot with what you're saying. Especially about lamellar. Personally, I don't think it would have made an appearance at this battle. However, I think for this battle, we should allow it. Plain and simple, it helps the numbers. Me personally, I'll be wearing mail. And abou...

That's why I suggested 301 stainless. Already comes tempered, thinner, so it gives a much lower profile and about the same strength as .1" road sign aluminum, in my opinion.

One thought. Amazon (or any other seller probably;amazon is just simpler if your buying one roll) has rolls of .031" 301 full hard SS. You could take a 4" wide roll of that, split it into 2 2" strips and then sew those into a gambeson. You'd get a decent amount if protection, little weight, and a ve...

George, you want a very period correct set of fighters. I think that's awesome. I'm concerned about having enough numbers with kit requirements being so stiff, especially for the first year. May I suggest an idea for a compromise? Similar to the way that the leaders of the two sides fought each othe...

I've always interpreted the use of the flat in real combat as kind of "bitch slap". Maybe it is Hollywoodesque but contemptously and purposely striking with the flat implys (to me) that theh opponent is not a threat and can be killed at any time. Kind of a "got your nose" counting coup. So this? ht...

Don't forget the basket hilts. With your same work rate, it equals about 1.75 baskets an hour, plus the helms.

Not to mention every other bit of armor, such as knee cops, elbow cops, goregets, etc.

Yeah, I'm thinking no.

Standards for armor and weapons were in the works and I think interest has been at least somewhat keen. I'm uncertain what time ...
