Re: How many fighters?
If he made a helmet a day for about 60 years, he could reach 40k. He'd have to sell them, as well. The guy should be a millionaire by now.... I figured it up. If he sold every helm he claims (assuming $90 for a helm, considering inflation, etc) and every basket he claims (assuming 12.50 a piece) he...

Max, what I am asking is that you not flood this mans life with emails, or encourage anyone to do so. Like many folks Beau has mundane obligations to attend to as well, one of which is a large project he is putting most of his spare time into for the next several weeks. Flooding this man with these...

Where would this be held? Would there be armor standards similar, if relaxed somewhat, to the 14th century deeds?

I could probably just replace the switch. Any idea what amperage it pulls? Assuming it's 120V (though if you have a 3-phase grinder, I want to see it.)

While I support the idea, Max and Caius, I'm having enough trouble getting my 14th century kit ready in time. :) I will be happy to watch or marshal, though. Leif Hey, no problem. Re: trouble with dome head rivets,
Use a piece of tape, with a hole in the center. Put the rivet through the hole, use the tape to hold the washer. Think that'll work? I'm just guessing. I always like to use a kind of a pulling or pushing motion when I'm having difficulty getting a rivet to mushroom. Stainless is a bitch. I don't do ...

Oh, would that such a huge percentage of the historic rolled edges hadn't been trimmed off in museums to further the curator agenda of dangerous armour that can't be driven over. If we had a larger sampling to study... Finally, I've been here long enough. http://media.tumblr.com/cbb7ac8f4e70b3e0c98...

Maces, get some.
All joking aside, I do enjoy being able to throw shots with a mace, especially against shield men, that just don't work with a sword. For both edge and balance reasons.

Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav
I disagree. Cut and Thrust is there. After looking at the Society level rules I conclude that there is absolutely nothing to stop two participants, armoured cap-a-pie, taking two Hanwei Practical Longsword trainers in hand and whaling on each other at whatever force levels they find acceptable. Is ...

Also, when you're poor, the helm you can afford tends to define your kit. And bascinets tend to be cheap and plentiful. Not to mention one of the overall best combat helmets. The glancing surfaces help a lot as a new fighter and by the time you've become established and skilled at fighting, many peo...

Personally, because the equipment is awesome, fairly easy to make, works well for SCA combat. I love the styles, there is a ton of documentation for everything, plaque belts are awesome. Then there are things like the 14th century deeds, which I love. And yes, hosen are awesome.

I know the feeling. Do you have a sewing machine? Or leather and rivets. Most kinds of leather will work for splinted.

Re: Wanted: Budget elbow & forearm protection
Depending on your skill set and your available tools, you could certainly make splinted vanbraces quite easily. Buy a 8 foot piece of 1x1/8" alumium, cut it into splints, drill them and rivet them to leather or to cloth. With padding underneath, should be fairly protective.
