Do you think this could pass for a Misericorde? I like it, need a knife, very 14th century in my kit, not super familiar with types of daggers though.

Kyka, I want you to know that these are both gorgeous helms. I've decided my next helm needs to be spring, but these are beautiful.

Clamshell vs. Bifurcated Gauntlets

I'm looking at buying spring steel gauntlets, with an eye towards moving into ACL/BotN style fighting. I've already picked a supplier. What I'm trying to determine is style. Even though I'll be using a late 14th kit, I'm looking into clamshells for the protection. I'm also considering bifurcated gau...

Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav

I agree Dietrech. I either prefer to close up and foul with my buckler, so that shots aren't coming in, or attack then fade. If I'm blocking with my buckler more than once per clash (with multiple clashes per bout) that I'm really screwing up. One way that I'm different is that I dodge mostly shots ...

Wow. Apparently, I'm an XXL in zoombang. Large is for (according to their website http://www.zoombang.com/) 38-41" chests. So no dibs, sorry about that.

Related question. All you buckler fighters, for avoiding shots thrown at you, what's the ratio of shots you dodge to shots you block? Roughly, since it's hard to take data in the middle of a fight.

It stops the enemy from letting his blade slide down the shaft of your weapon and landing on your arm, body, or head. Also, it allows for some weapon/shield manipualtion you'd not be capable of otherwise. I see people who don't use them and I always wonder why they don't.

Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav

I fully agree raito. I either close and let his shield work against him or stay at range and let his lack of mobility (and the weight of his shield, especially if he's not in ideal shape or a smoker) wear at him while dance around and snipe. If he tries to close, either move away or close the gap be...

Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav

The period sources are not a good match for SCA fighting if you're going with a 'plug and play' attitude. That is to say: you can't take most of the period material and just plug it into SCA heavy fighting. The sole exception is greatsword. In sword and buckler the divergence is caused by the fact ...

Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav

Nice video, do you have any more buckler ones? As for ranges, I occasionally take my mace out with my buckler (27" mace). I find that you can engage inside of A range succesfully (at least in my kingdom), if you can foul their weapon. The way I do that is I use the edge of my buckler (I use an 11.5"...

Re: Are there any buckler fighting guides about for SCA heav

I love my buckler. I rely on speed and evasion to form most of my defense and sword and buckler blocks for the rest. As Urdok said, keep moving. I don't know how the mood about fouling an opponent's weapon with a shield is, here in Ansteorra it is very common and bucklers actually work great for thi...
