Re: Fouling a weapon
Not like that around here. Shields getting dug into arms is pretty standard. No bashing, nothing painful, but a lot of fouling the arm with a shield.

Re: Forge of Svan Review-Gambeson
Total price, including shipping, came up to almost exactly $120. I felt that was a pretty good price, especially for a garment made to my size.

Re: Viking Raid at BAM
I think there are a bunch of reasons the 14th century deeds have proved to be popular. Our armour standards make that the first time period where you don't have to hide protective gear, so it's easier to do than a high end early kit. So we get a lot of people doing it. Melee deeds capture the aesth...

I'm staying away from whoever buys this, since I'm pretty sure if they were around me at a cold event that they could pull that trick from The Empire Strikes Back on me to keep warm. 47" chest.

Wow, your friend would not like me. I do that all the time, as well as grabbing great weapon hafts with my shield hand (I use a buckler, makes it easy).

Forge of Svan Review-Gambeson
I'd been looking at some Ukrainian armorers, I came across Forge of Svan and they caught my eye. I'd been looking for a Corrazina and a gambeson. I decided to go ahead and order a gambeson as a test run. I ordered this one http://www.forgeofsvan.com/en/Gambesons/%D0%A1%D1%82%D1%91%D0%B3%D0%B0%D0%BD%...

Re: Deed of Arms at BAM?
That idea had been considered because of a conversation on the 14th century mafia FB page about fighters wearing bargrills being killed instead of captured, specifically about the lack of ransom. I'd have no problem calling it something else, how do y'all feel about giving your ransom to the man tha...

I wonder if it's an effect on the opponent or on ones own psychology? Or if its merely correlation, no causation.

Viking Raid at BAM
I competed in the 14th Century Deed of Arms this past Gulf War and was very impressed with it. I had the thought of doing something similar at this coming BAM but for earlier in period. My question is; Would anyone be interested in small melee for earlier period, something like a Viking raid on a co...

Re: Deed of Arms at BAM?
Are we shooting for the same kit and weapon standards as The Deed? Yes, but possibly with an added caveat that the dead can be "looted" by those who kill them, meaning they would lose their ransom. Otherwise, I think the current deed rules work quite well. If you have suggestions though, please sha...

Re: Quillions with thrusting tips on a great sword
Would a one handed punch with a quillon/pommel be any more effective than a one handed punch with an axe (held just under the head) that people seem to complain wouldn't/shouldn't be good? I'd only take either of those if they impacted my face. I figure either of those would be enough to screw up m...

We've been discussing it on the 14th century mafia FB page. Looks like it will be called the Melee at Dunstable, so the MAD.Paul the Small wrote:I think a Deed in the castle at BAM would be awesome. I'm in.

Deed of Arms at BAM?
I enjoyed the Deed at Gulf Wars so much that I can't wait a whole year to do it again. My home barony happens to be hosting a war in November, so I figured I'd go ahead and push to start one there. The ones in charge of events would be more likely to listen if I had a whole list of people saying tha...

I agree, this was my second Gulf Wars and my first time participating in a Deed/CoT style event. Hockey gear bag with wheels. Opens with a zipper flap but has a second compartment for marshal paperwork etc so it doesn't get sweaty. What you can do to fix that is to add a strip of heavy rubber on the striking edge., such as the type used on the bottoms of traffic cones. Unpleasant to be struck with.

With all the force he can bring
And still get torn limb from limb.
