Re: Critique My SCA Kit

Personally, I'd try to improve the fit of the CoP around your shoulders and get your spaulders pointed better. It's hard to tell but they look like they're riding forward more than they should. More pictures would help.

Re: Critique My SCA Kit

The aventail feels wrong to me. Seems to hang too sheet like and and to not go high enough on the helm. Padding under that can help with the way it hangs. Do you have a good up close picture of it? I'll dig out an effigy that shows what I mean.

Also seems like it make pressurize sometimes on impact, allowing it to penetrate bars more easily.

Re: 2" Mandrake tips suck and you all know it

To be a dick was my assumption. People can be assholes. I wouldn't make one of these (other than to hypothetically fuck with a marshal, I'd not use it) and I wouldn't suggest using it, but the way the rules are written it's legal.

Re: 2" Mandrake tips suck and you all know it

Am I the only one that thinks the 2 inch tips just hit too hard? I took a thrust to the chest from a 2 inch mandrake tip at 100 minutes war. It hit in an under armored spot where the breastplate joins the shoulder. I immediately tasted blood. Took a step back, tried to fight again, and could not br...

Re: 2" Mandrake tips suck and you all know it

Interesting math regarding stabbing tips (Feel free to proof check this) 3" 1.5^2=2.25x3.14= 7.065" sq 2" 1^2=1x3.14=3.14" sq 1.25" .625^2=.39x3.14=1.22" sq 1.22"/7.065" = .17 1.22"/3.14"=.39 So the 1.25" tip has about 17% the surface area that the 3" tip does and about 40% the surface are the 2" ti...

Re: 2" Mandrake tips suck and you all know it

I mean, it terms of hitting hard with a spear, the mandrakes aren't as bad as it can get, assuming they're padded correctly. If you really wanted to be a dick, you could take a piece of say 1-3/4 rattan, 7.5 feet long, the trim down the last 6" or so to 1.25" and add an inline stabbing tip. If I'm r...

Re: 2" Mandrake tips suck and you all know it

I really do think it had something to do with the tip creating a seal as was mentioned earlier, as that seems like the only way a stabbing tip could penetrate the bars and still have enough force to damage an eye. I think if I get a spear in the future, I'll go ahead and drill a hole in the tip, jus...

Special (Deed style) fight for Crusader/Varangian personas?

Between the continued success of the 14th century deeds of arms and the recent success of period correct dark age fights (The viking Raid held at BAM), I got to thinking. Do y'all think there would be an interest in having an equivalent for Crusader type personas? I see an awful lot greathelms on th...

Found a source ( I think) for Scale Aventails

I've seen several people mention wanting a scale aventail instead of the usual maile one. ACL? Budget? I'm afraid these are mostly incompatible terms.

I have a forge of Svan Corrazina in spring steel. Not really 15th, maybe early early 15th century. I really like it a lot though. And for what it is, it was fairly cheap.

In my experience, 2mm is closer to 14 gauge than 12 gauge. And you might consider offering closer spacing on the bargrill to be ACL and SCA compliant.

Re: 1.2mm Aluminium, thick enough for SCA lamellar?

My advice? Sell it to larpers who don't rely on it for protection from blows. Use the money to buy good armor. Unless it's a stiff alloy, I'd think it would be too soft for good SCA armor.

Re: 1.2mm Aluminium, thick enough for SCA lamellar?

301 FH works better, if you have access to a laser cutter. It comes prehardened, so there isn't any tempering or forge scale removal involved and it is a lot more corrosion resistant than 410. Not quite as strong for yield strength, but plenty strong enough.
