Re: Christmas is Coming at Viking Leathercrafts

http://www.vikingleathercrafts.com/16th-century-latchet-shoes.html Hey Frank, you have the description wrong on this page. For some reason it calls them out as 12th century not 16th These 12th Century shoes are based on styles of footwear common during the period. They are based on patterns taken f...

I much prefer cloth liners to foam ones. Seem to work much better for me. And I'm always a big fan of using what they did, since I assume they knew what they were doing.

Also, I've not seen another copy besides mine in person, mine doesn't have the cover with photos of armor, it just has "1361" and an embossed cross on the cover. Wasn't sure if the original dust cover had been removed or if I had an older copy.

Re: "Coat of Plates" style sabatons?

Hmm, maybe not. I've managed to get a working sabaton (not super pretty but worked) from Talbots pattern. I may just make plate ones instead. I'll dig out pictures anyway; I totally forgot to last night.

Re: critique armor

Oh, it is a spangen. Missed that from the pictures. Your lamellar (per my understanding of the rules) should just need some padding around the kidneys and floating ribs if it's 10-12 oz unhardened leather. If you'd rather, attach some steel pieces to a shirt or undergarment and wear that with the la...

I'd assumed that the wires allowed them to be placed in various places around the torso. I guess having seen one in real life might help.

Re: critique armor

We've had an ongoing debate about vikings wearing lamellar. As for protection, well, it's your body. But personally, I'd drop the coat of plates and maybe add padding under the lamellar where needed or where marshals gripe about. Look into getting a period correct helm, Accdntprone here on the archi...

I'm assuming if I get the combined landskencht woodcuts that that will count as 2 books for the purpose of getting the 14th century splinted book as well?

I'm thinking I might try it if I order some .032 301 steel. I'd probably try to do something similar to the way age of craft does their brigandine mittens.

If you could, offer cheaper shipping. There several things I'd like but the shipping just runs too much. I'm looking at paying nearly 2/3rds of the price of the item for shipping to Texas it takes a 33 dollar hammer head and makes it a 55 dollar hammer head.

Talbot has the pattern for it listed on his site. I really like his tutorials and patterns, even though I have to resize them to fit me well, because he goes into a lot of detail on them. Well worth a few bucks for the PDF. Control+F for "Crusader" to jump to it. http://talbotsfineaccessories.com/bo...

Lamellar plates maybe? Or might be for non armor purposes, though 16-18 are fairly thin.
