Re: Brimmed Bascinet-Am I seeing this right?
I thought the same. It looks like it should, I just wonder about the lack of details on it. Figured I'd ask people who make a study of these things.

Brimmed Bascinet-Am I seeing this right?
Looking through Manuscript Miniatures, saw the following http://manuscriptminiatures.com/5187/16432/ http://manuscriptminiatures.com/5187/16433/ http://manuscriptminiatures.com/5187/16437/ http://manuscriptminiatures.com/5187/16436/ To me, it looks like a bascinet with a brim on it. IIRC, brig shoulders were mentioned earlier. Thought I'd toss this link in here too.

Re: Lamellar in 4130-Have a couple of questions
Ah, ok. So if used this I'd still have to heat treat it. That should be possible. Are you certain that this is 1050 steel? I believe you, but I'd be dissapointed if it turned out to be a non carbon steel alloy. It would definitely be cheaper than the 4130 (though if I was doing 3x1.5 plates out of 1...

Re: Lamellar in 4130-Have a couple of questions
You can get the 2" wide here http://www.uline.com/BL_2904/Strapping-High-Tensile Since it is .044 thickness that puts it between 18 and 19 guage. That's a good idea. Have you or has anyone here ever used this before for making lamellar? I'd just like to get a good idea for how stiff it is and how h...

Re: Lamellar in 4130-Have a couple of questions
Is there a reason you want to use 4130? If cost effectiveness is what you are after grab a roll of high tensile pallet banding. Its 1050 can be purchased in up to 3" wide rolls and already has a spring temper. Have a link for a place to buy this? And part of the reason was because it's easier to dr...

Re: Lamellar in 4130-Have a couple of questions
I have a tcouple and don't use it. You can eyeball it fairly easily. It would only cost you a couple of plates to experiment and get it right. Red isn't hot enough, red-orange is good, orange is good, yellow works but will definitely warp. Ok. Thank you. I think for lam plates and splints, this mig...

That sounds fairly feasible. I might try running a t-couple into it as well, for a temperature reference.

Lamellar in 4130-Have a couple of questions
Friend and I were discussing the price of spring steel kits. I had a thought and I'd like to run it past y'all. My thought was about ordering a few sheets of 4130 in .040 (almost exactly 1mm) from ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/4130-ANN-CHROM-MOLY-STEEL-SHEET-PLATE-040-x-18-x36-/310575421080?pt=LH_Def...

Do you have any pictures of this style? I'm unhappy with the way the gaunts I bought are strapped.

This work? It's about the right size, if you don't mind cutting it. Don't know what thickness you need so I guessed.

Re: Battle of the Nations- Team USA
I think part of the issue is that people who swing a stick on weekends, and are, well, honestly, way, WAYYY out of shape, think they are, in fact, in shape. Like most extreme hobbies, it's not for everyone. or even most people. There's a level, below which, you won't be able to do it. And I think t...

Since they're (to my eyes) pretty well shaped and stainless, I'd say it's worth a bit to rehab em. If you decide to sell them, I wouldn't mind having them myself.

Do you mean 1050 carbon steel or 4130? And forgive me, but how much armoring skill would you say is needed to fully fit a pair of these? I'd love a set, but I'm pretty novice with metal working.

Personally, I'd use a thermocouple or two, but that's just because I'm more familiar with the set up for them. Just personal preference. OTOH, I've never use a kiln for heat treating. So I may be wrong.

I've heard that many of the French 14th century effigies have been destroyed by various wars or revolutions.
Does anyone have any articles regarding this?
