Pardon my stupidity? if thought these were clamshell kits. Are this finger gauntlet kits instead? I'd looked back at pictures on here and they certainly looked like clamshell/mitten gauntlets.zalbad wrote:I hope these do well for yah maybe some clamshell kits in the future?

Re: I need to up my game
I don't really need to lose weight, if anything I need to gain it. Wha tI need to do is build muscle. I am 6'3" 190lbs. But it is not much muscle weight. I have a big beer gut. (well big for me not compaired to some) My biggest problem is at my job I sit on my ass ALL DAY. 8 hours, every day. And I...

Caius, the pair in pair of plates is pair as in latin par, meaning something in a grouping that is alike or similar. There could be two or ten as long as they are equal or like each other. I tend to think it simply means garment of many plates. RPM Once again the day is saved. http://xkcd.com/1010/

Re: To wear a hauberk under plate or not, that is the questi
Same as for a "pair of plates" being a single coat of plates, or a pair of pants. Perhaps the paunces are made in two halves, rather than a solid skirt with a slit? To me, a pair of plates sounds like a breast and back plate, but I'm not 100% when this is, so backplates may not have been common yet...

I have come to the conclusion that I really need to up my game. I am a stable fighter. Thats all that can be said about me. I come to the line, I get one or two kill son the field a day, and most of the time I am fodder and body to let those who can-do. I need to up my game. I have been told that t...

Re: Which is better?
I'm currently doing this myself. Have a slowly improving 14th century kit, just started working on a norse one for a high persona Norse fight this fall (Viking Raid at BAM, be ready for it). It's more a matter of neccesity than anything. It would look bad if I pushed for a special fight, got so many...

Re: First Fighter Practice and Questions
Caius, the sword I currently have has a basket hilt, so I figure that demis would be enough for now. I think small is the right size. I have a set of demi's that aren't being used and that I wouldn't mind giving away but they are definitely Large, so sounds like a no go. And it sounds like already ...

Re: A classic early SCA helm on Ebay,,,(not my auction).
What's not legal about the grill? Not saying that I'd want to fight in it, but the barstock looks plenty thick enough and the opening look to be less than an inch wide. What amuses me in the shipping cost. I know that thing isn't light, but that's just rediculous. It does have an option to change i...

Since my usual kit is 14th century and I'm only diving into the norse for this one fight, a gdfb from therion was probably my first option. I'd probably want it painted with a simple blue and green pattern

Re: Shield Closeout
BAM is Bordermarch Autumn Melees. Every year down near Beaumont. Nice little war with Gleann Abhan, nifty castle battle and what not. There is going to be a high persona norse fight there, so I may need a good solid round shield for the fight, edged with rawhide to be historicaly presentable. Center...

Re: Acceptable Risk and Safety
Why should the SCA allow an activity that violates our rules? Because it can be tons of fun for those who like fighting like that. We do it now. The combat of the thirty and its variants have engagment rules that are outside the pale and differing target conventions. There are charity tournaments t...

If "Good Athletes" are driven away becuase they hit harder than local convention, then IMO they - 1) Need to practice until they get some control. 2) Don't CARE about local convention - then their leaving is a good thing. 3) Are fast, strong - but lack the discipline to be real athletes. People who...

Thank you for the input. I see the perspective, and definitely respect it (especially after catching a few hefty pike shots). However, not to argue, but to augment my own perspective, a great number of pike/spear shots often seem to pop your head back pretty hard, anyway. I am not certain that squi...

Re: Acceptable Risk and Safety
I question the thrusty tips. Do we really need so much 'progressive compression' (squish)? I mean...we wail on each other with skinny bats. Would something with some *small* amount of 'give' better suit what we do? The armor is there for a reason, and we are each responsible for covering our own bu...

If you get a gauge on it and find out it's 12 gauge stainless, someone in ACL might be interested in it. 14g stainless is more common for SCA though.

Re: Acceptable Risk and Safety
I'm conflicted here. I'm relatively young in the sport (and in general) and I'm going to through the armoring up portion of my fighting, which combinded with a desire to play in BOTN one day means I'm going with a very heavy kit. Personally, I'd love to see more and more heavily armored fighters alo...

Tangent question, do you have a copy of the dimensions of the original? I saw a picture posted not too long ago with some of them, but I was curious in making a close copy that was SCA legal and wouldn't mind not have to estimate. If not, no headache.

Re: Armorer/Customer communications & expectations
Depends on the armorer. Since I have never ordered super awesome custom gear, I expect most of the armorers to reply within a week to a week and a half. If not, I usually feel apprehensive about ordering from them. Not that I won't but it makes me cautious. Once a month is nice, depending on what's ...
