Re: Armor design tips for someone who's small

This will initially sound kind of counter intuitive, but I think that there is something to be said for reasonably complete plate as the best thing for a small person. Many people attempt to use leather or plastic to minimize weight. Then the material gets thick in order to get enough protection. On...

Re: Days of Knights 2016: A Living History Timeline Event

I did cringe a bit at the first picture. The amours aren't bad, but they don't play well with each other. When I was there, the guys fighting were mostly in a 100 year period. They seemed to have stretched it out some more with the guy on the left there. Wade We do make sure to point things like th...

Thanks for posting those links, Tom! I've just had the whirlwind-one-man-critique of the various items of kit, and was thinking that this would be a lot more fun with small group of enthusiasts and some beer and pizza. Mac That does sound like a fun and educational time. I am to used to seeing thin...

Jeremy G is bringing Josh. Sounds like we are up to 14 if people don't drop out. So we are "full" unless something strange happens. Attendees, look over the list and my site and make comments about what you want. Or look over the list and just ask for types of things. I generally know what I have an...

As usual, some very nice stuff there. I enjoyed my visit to the 2015 one.

It moves East again next year... right?

I am still pretty heavily weighted toward later stuff, but maybe we can do something again next year?

I haven't actually done a tally of attendees. There is enough variability a little ways out that it fluctuates. I don't see any reason to declare it full, but I guess I should start counting.

In short, come on down.

Cool. Always good to have you. I should (I hope, I hope) have the new gothic thing so we should have some earlier "engraved" lines to investigate.

And I have my copy of the Gwynn catalogue for people to play with.

I have now had time to go through the book more slowly. It is a fine book. Very nice. Lots of large images. I now have my copy in hand. My elbow is on plate 39. The book includes some really big images of some very nice pieces of armour. Nicer ones (not my elbow) have several images at different angles. For me the equivalent is usually wandering around the shop with my hand waving (as if it were using a hammer) trying to find the one I know I want to use for that particular next few whacks. It always amazes me how good hammers (even ones I just used) are at hiding from me.

The "folding clamshell thing" is normally called a waistcoat cuirass. They are... interesting. The actual amount of metal movement is pretty small. I expect that Mac is right. I did make a pattern for something similar, I was making a waistcoat cuirass. It happens to have seams where the high spots are, so the pattern is vaguely similar. In my case I was patterning one with a very high neckline with an integral collar, but the idea with a short...
