Your experiment is well-designed and should produce some insight, although your number n is too low to be of statistical significance. I commend your effort and look forward to seeing the results.

Re: shoes for the flat footed?

Hi Jonathon, I haven't found anyone who makes truly comfortable period shoes or boots. My feet end up hurting a lot when I spent a lot of time in period shoes/boots. I find that I am constantly switching footwear to keep the pain under control - period shoes/boots, non-period boots and sandals. Boot...

Re: Oxy regulator gone bad- Rebuild or replace?

I work with oxygen in a scuba compressor, which also involves the use of a 2-stage welding O2 regulator for my oxygen feed. If you rebuild your oxygen regulator, but sure that all of your parts get "oxygen clean" - the best way to do this is an ultrasonic cleaner and an appropriate cleaning agent. U...

Re: LF maker for a leather drinking costrel!

IMGP0495.jpg Here is my first attempt at any kind of leather work. It's a stainless-steel canteen (a Civil War reenactment canteen) wrapped in leather. Took about 4 hours to make. Pretty simple. It ain't pretty but it holds 750 ml of beer. My next project is a 2 liter stainless steel costrel, wrapp...

Re: LF maker for a leather drinking costrel!

Maybe it's cheating, but I use a stainless steel canteen in the appropriate shape and wrap it in leather using the techniques shown in these tutorials. With some creativity you can hide the steel spout with leather, and no one has to know... With the costrel shown in the OP, you can use a wooden one...

Re: Chainmail and Leather questions. please help.

For SCA heavy fighting I use 10-12 oz. cuir bouilli leather for my greaves, it's plenty heavy enough. Soak your leather in warm water until it's thoroughly saturated. Then do any tooling that you have planned, and finally dye the leather while it is still moist. Let the leather drip-dry until it's n...

Re: Armour Kit Manual - I need your help!

I'm not sure that a guide based on examples of SCA kits is the way to go. The guide should be based on images for paintings, illuminated manuscripts, and extant examples. A few examples of some nice SCA kits would round out your guide, but the SCA kits should not be the focus. The Dawn of Chivalry k...

Anyone have any references or documentation of medieval sandals? I have looked through Shoes and Pattens, and numerous illuminated manuscripts. Tailored shoulders with a leather CoP. The shoulder slope is anatomically correct. The leather was cut over my shoulder and over-lapped. Sewing and rivets hold the overlap together.

Re: How do I bring down the shoulders in a Coat of Plates?

I made a pattern for my CoP out of a thin craft cardboard but I split the pattern over the top of my shoulders and made a 5-inch overlap there. This allowed me to tailor the shoulders so that the CoP fabric sloped properly. The overlap also provided a thicker area to which to attach my spaulders, an...

GOOD LUCK! 12th C is a notoriously-difficult period to research, as there is very little data out there. It's like there was a giant black hole in the Universe that sucked up everything between 1100 and 1200. I completed a 12th C medieval chest last year, I didn't find a whole lot of information. Yo...
