Re: Sword and dagger in SCA heavy

You might try fighting dagger v. dagger for a while to gain some solid dagger fighting skills. I've even tried fighting dagger v. sword/board for some experience.

Re: Sword suspension c. AD 1250

I believe you are looking at two belts being worn. One to support the sword, and a decorative belt over it. Actually I had the opposite conclusion as to which belt was for which purpose (see photo in my OP). The decorative belt at the natural waist seems unrelated to the sword scabbard. The sword b...

Re: leather sourse

I agree, Springfield is great. Forgot them on my list. I recently obtained a double shoulder in 9-10 oz. veg tan tooling leather from Zach White. Really nice stuff. It wasn't in stock, had to wait several weeks. But when it finally arrived it was quite nice - spotless. I also recently bought a side ...

Sword suspension c. AD 1250

Take a look at the manner in which the scabbards are suspended in these images. The belt is worn on the outside of the scabbard. Exactly how is the belt connected to the scabbard? Do you know of any modern reproductions that use this method? http://manuscriptminiatures.com/4974/15435/ http://manuscr...

I added black linen hosen, a velveteen surcoat and splinted leather schynbalds (to match my splinted cuisses). I'm working on a long-sleeve linen tunic. This is about as far as I am taking this kit.

You might have trouble finding brass nails or rivets with heads that are big enough for riveting on a CoP. I used copper roofing nails:

Re: Started work on a Wisby Coat

That's what you get for not having a mail haubergeon or skirt. I tried. I cut off the bottom of my maille hauberk and attached it my cuisse belt as a maille skirt. But it was too much bulk around my waist and hips, so I abandoned that idea. I guess that I could re-visit attaching a skirt of m...

I've got cotton velveteen for a black & red particolor surcoat. Maybe a natural linen or cream colored liner?

Thank you honorable Fearghus Cochrane for your comments. I would start with a long sleeve shirt and chausses to cover the skin & kneepads on both the arms and legs. Are you wearing a 'Romanesque' tunic? Yes. Where I live it is 90 degrees and 90% humidity during fighting season. I could wear long-sle...

Critique My SCA Kit I just finished putting together a kit - finally no more sport armor! Although I working towards a kit from 1350, my kit is loosely based on the brass of Sir Miles Stapleton (1364). http://effigiesandbrasses.com/media/cache/effigiesandbrasses.com/original/miles_stapleton_s1_r13_l...

Re: QUestions Regarding SCA Chainmail

I hope you're young and strong, if you want to fight in maille. Holy crap that stuff is heavy. Wears out old men like me. If you go the cheap route, get the flat riveted rings in mild steel. Be sure you also buy a good supply of spare rings, rivets, and a riveting tool for the necessary repairs. Eva...

A nice rule of thumb but rather out of date. Good anvils go in excess of $2/lb new and they don't age simply by getting old. A $1/pound anvil is frequently chipped, flawed or made of substandard material. Good to know, 'cause I paid $2/pound for my Vulcan 7, but it was convenient and local and I di...
