I've been armouring professionally since 1987 and have jousted competitively in England, New Zealand, Holland and the US for the last 4 years. For the last 5 years I have worked almost exclusively in hardened and tempered 1050 carbon steel, . My own armour and the armour I make for my clients is pri...

GDFB is based in England, Newcastle actually, and is run by Stephen Brown and his wife Pauline. Stephen has his product manufactured by Indian Handicrafts and Textiles Syndicate, run by Ashok ...

I've got a few pictures prepped of the German armour. As MattB pointed out, We have an article on the two armours in the HE journal, pretty well describing the commissions. Here are the photos: I've done more work on the cuirass since these were taken, like rolling the edges and fluting the back. It...

What's the wearer holding in his right hand in the rear shot? Other than that, very nice stuff. Has the guy you fit it to had a chance to work out in it yet? He works in a museum, he has to have his pass with him at all times. I do wish he'd put in inside the cuirass, tho'. I delivered this armour ...

Any chance we could see a picture of said harness when complete?..Otto I'd be happy to put something up about it. Don't have anything but "in process" pics for the moment, but perhaps you would like to see the first armour I made for them last year? [img]http://www.historicenterprises.com/images/pr...

My Milanese & German armours for the Frazier Museum
Since Otto was interested in seeing what I'm working on, I'll post some "in process" pics soon of the second armour I'm making for the Frazier Museum in Louisville KY. For now, I've just put the first armour up on our site under "Custom Work", and the thumbnail below links to the page. I hope you li...

That last 5% covers things like the 'Armed Woman' poster, which we think is awfully clever but has gotten us more irate letters than sales. Oh well, can't please all the people all the time, right? RB- Go to Home Depot to the dowel department, should be near the mouldings. Get a 1-1/4" dowel, they come 4' long out here. Cut it with a saw to 3' long. Put it in the lance ferrule. If either the ferrule or the dowel are wobbly, even a little, wrap a turn or two or masking tape on either the lance ...

I'm confused here - why would you tuck your shirt into your braies? Why -wouldn't- you? A shirt is a shirt, not a tunic. Many people tuck their tshirt into their jeans...same idea here. I see many guys at Pennsic in only braies, shirt and chausses, with their shirts out and a belt over it. I think ...

We expect to offer discounts for quantity orders of 6 or more lance bases, but have yet to determine the amount. Sorry, I have no intention to make shouldered balsa as I can't make them cheap enough, as they would have to be lathe turned. Nobody would buy them at what I'd have to charge. I will only...

My interest with the hardwood insert is for the quintain only. I think that the poplar, or similar hard wood, will be fine for a good bit of use so I'm only expecting to buy one every great now and then. $20 sounds like a decent price if that proves to be the case. Now I'm definitely sold. As to th...

Ain't it the truth, Patrick. We used to do school demos in the Red Company-1471. Over the course of several years, we regularly went to two local middle schools with 6 of our people, a big tent, a horse (either Bill or I would arm up and sit all day-- hard on the butt), etc. We had about 4-6 "statio...

As I expected, the lance with ferrule, but without tip is 5-1/4 pounds. With a balsa and one of our rubber coronels, it weighs 5-3/4 pounds. Just below my estim...

Look for "full round moulding" from a Moulding or Hardwood supplier. Standard diameters are 1", 1-3/8" and 1-1/2", usually stocked in oak and soft wood. 1-3/8" diameter is usually called "closet dowel". 1-1/4" diameter is the best diameter, though I've never seen it as a stock size in hardwood. I've...

Do you sell Iron coronels or sharp tips for those (besides the rubber safety type)? Not yet, but they're in my plans, as are vamplates. What kind of glue do you use at the join for the two piece lance, exterior wood glue or something else? Your choice entirely. I'll probably use carpenter's glue or...

Tim, The illo shows a hilt which seems to be some sort of hybrid between a baselard and a ballock/kidney dagger, probably whittle tang construction, and color is the exact same as boxwood. Boxwood is known as a very common wood for European knife and dagger hilts, so you'd probably be very safe in t...

Grip is 1.5" at narrow point. I will likely have 1-2 of my own at the November clinic, but none for sale. I'll have too much kit with me to bring bulky lances on spec as well. The best plan for everyone is to order them now, at the best price. The price will only go up as of November 1, as noted on ...
